She knew that the island was a cruel place. That the man in charge was a sadist and loved to watch them suffer. She had completely underestimated the depths of that cruelty, though. When she thought that things could not possibly get worse, he proved her wrong. Sent back to her own time, she was forced to watch the man she loved gallivanting around with other women. He had no clue that anything had ever gone on between them. He saw her only as one of the Sully brood and that was it. She had no one to turn to. None of those she cared about had even realized she was gone. None of them remembered anything that had happened. Her mother was still around. All of her siblings alive and in the house. All she could do was go and pour her soul out to the one being on the island that wouldn’t question her feelings. Fortunately for her, Banshee was a good listener. She didn’t even have Seddrinth to confide in anymore. So every night, when Jake was asleep, she would make her way out to where Banshee rested and talk until she couldn’t talk anymore. As time passed, she grew colder. She limited her interactions to family. It was easier to keep from getting hurt that way. Easier to keep from seeing Bucky with a different woman every week. She watched her sister get married, once again separated from her by her husband. It was like the island loved to watch her bleed emotionally. The true shock came, however, when she went to give Sarah a small birthday gift. She knocked on the door and David had answered. In the blink of an eye, he attacked, stabbing her and dragging her into the forest. Had it not been for her father’s wish, she would have been dead. But the wounds healed quickly enough that she didn’t bleed to death alone in the woods as David had planned. She said nothing. She simply showed up on their doorstep and let him dig his own proverbial grave. The prison had been opened up especially for him. HIs only interaction being once a day when someone brought food to him. It seemed like a fitting punishment to her. More time passed and she maintained her distance. Kept her heart to herself. What was the point of starting something only to have it fall apart? That’s what happened with her. She always found a way to ruin it. So it was better that she not bother at all. She was content to just help take care of her siblings, and her niece and nephew when they came along. It was the only family she would ever have, ever allow herself to have, and she was okay with that. Finally, after five years she was happy with her life. She was okay with the way things were. So of course that had to change. She’d gone to bed in her room in the house, having moved back in there when she got back. It made it easier for her to help with her siblings, and to spend more time with her mother. Rachel and Izzy had been close before, but she wanted to be even closer. Izzy didn’t complain about the change and didn’t question it and for that Rachel had been grateful. Waking up in the same bedroom was to be expected. She got up and looked out the window as she always did every morning. This time, however, she froze. There, in the backyard, was Seddrinth’s barn. A sight she hadn’t seen in a very long time. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath, letting it out as she opened them. The barn was still there. She walked over to the nightstand and picked up her phone, noticing the difference in style right away. She stared at the year on the display for a good five minutes. “Well fuck.” After giving herself some time to process everything, she changed quickly and made her way downstairs, stopping to get a cup of coffee on her way out to see Seddrinth. |
