Sarah loved riding through the forest, even when she was on her way home. There was something about having to dodge trees and keep her reflexes sharp that made it more fun. Of course she never let her parents know that she didn't stick to the path when she was in the forest. They'd have a fit if they found out, but it was a rare occasion when Sarah actually stayed on the path. She loved the adventure of it. Having been out riding all day, she was starting to get hungry. When she thought about it, though, it seemed like she was always hungry. One of the disadvantages of being a super soldier, she guessed. She knew all about who her father was before coming to the island, even if he'd put it all behind him once he got there. And she was okay with that. Working on the farm made him happy and that's all that mattered to Sarah. But sometimes she did wonder what it would be like to actually use the enhancement she was born with for something other than manual labor and showing off for the boys. She pulled her motorcycle, though it wasn't much more than a dirt bike really, up to the cottage and put the kickstand down. She only ever wore a helmet when her parents were paying attention and insisted that she wear one. There weren't many ways that Sarah rebelled but she did when she could. She ran her fingers through her hair, shaking out any possible leaves that might be in it before heading into the house. It looked a little smaller than she remembered but she figured that had to be a trick of the imagination. Houses didn't tend to shrink over night. Assuming that her parents were both at work, Sarah didn't bother to say anything before heading to the kitchen. Stevie had his own place so she knew that he wouldn't be home and James was probably out playing in the pond or doing something else ridiculously boyish. She started to look around in the cupboards, trying to find something to eat. |
