Mac had decided to take a break from working on the fence at the beach, especially since it was almost completely done anyway. He just had a few finishing touches. He would have to find a way to thank Micha properly for her help. He'd woken up very early, before the sun game up, and just watched Gretel sleep for a little bit before he realized that sleep wasn't going to come back to him, so he got up and went to take a shower. He left a note for Gretel that he'd be on the farm if she needed him and headed out after getting dressed. Even with Dick and Steve helping out, there was a lot of work to do. He started in the barn, looking around at what needed to be done. It had to be cleaned out, that was for sure. And the hay had to be moved around a bit. So he started cleaning. Got the pitchfork and went to work. While he worked he thought about what was going on. He thought about the situation they were in. As he thought about it, he got angry. Not at Gretel. He could never be mad at Gretel for that. It wasn't her fault. He was mad at what was happening because it made her feel bad. Like she was a horrible mother. And he was angry because he had been really excited about the prospect of being a father and whatever was causing this could take that away from him. He started to take his anger out on the barn. Working hard was the best way to work through it. But the anger wasn't going away. So he just kept taking it out on the hay and the barn and throwing things around. Maybe that would work. He picked up one of the bales of hay from the laughed and threw it out the loft doors. He'd never been that mad in his life. After doing it again and again and again, the anger finally melted away and he sat down on one of the bales as tears started to roll down his cheeks. It just wasn't fair. |
