Daryl was finding himself in the pub more and more often lately, and he wasn't exactly sure why. Maybe it was because Maryanne seemed to be there quite a lot, and while he was still really unsure about the whole romance thing, he was pretty sure he was coming to like her a lot as a person. They had things in common, like where they were from, the way they grew up, and they both had a lot of shit in their backgrounds, even if it was different shit.
He wasn't ready to pick out curtains, or any stupid shit like that, but he did like talking to her, and even her baby was starting to grow on him a little. For a baby.
So he was sitting in the pub, nursing a pint of Miller Light as he listened to the sounds of the place, and finally discovered he was humming.
Shit. Not again.
He found himself standing, and moving to the center of the room, because of course if he was going to embarrass himself, he was going to embarrass himself to the full extent of his abilities.
And then. It started.
Midnight Not a sound from the pavement
Has the moon lost her memory?
She is smiling alone
In the lamplight
The withered leaves collect at my feet
And the wind begins to moan
Memory
All alone in the moonlight
I can smile at the old days
I was beautiful then
I remember The time I knew what happiness was
Let the memory live again
Every street lamp
Seems to beat a fatalistic warning
Someone mutters and the street lamp gutters
And soon it will be morning
Daylight I must wait for the sunrise
I must think of a new life
And I mustn't give in
When the dawn comes
Tonight will be a memory too
And a new day will begin
Burnt out ends of smoky days
The stale cold smell of morning
A street lamp dies, another night is over
Another day is dawning
Touch me It's so easy to leave me
All alone with my memory
Of my days in the sun
If you touch me
You'll understand what happiness is
Look a new day has begun
