Well if Kvothe was going to be honest with himself he hadn't expected to wake up in the morning to face a metal monster in a one on one match. Neither did he expect to be chased--if it could be called being chased--halfway across the city to ditch it. And even then it was only a temporary ditch, because while the bastard moved relatively slowly, it was persistent as hell and seemed determined to catch him. And Kvothe had gotten himself turned around about a hundred times in the last quarter hour; the city didn't make any sense from one end to the other and every manner of scaling walls, jumping fences or pushing through downed doors had gotten him confused. There was no method to this particular madness, only the need to escape until he could sit and think peacefully for three minutes.
It didn't occur to him immediately that the thing kept chasing him because it could see him. It wasn't until he'd scaled a house--with some major bruises gained along the way, rest assured--and ducked into the shadows that it stopped. Kvothe could hear it down there, though, moving like thunder along the ground, the mechanical gears shifting and grinding as it trudged down the street steadily as ever. Tempting fate--out of stupid curiosity--Kvothe leaned up to peek over the edge of the rooftop then ducked down again before it could spot him.
"Okay," he breathed, quietly since he didn't want to be heard. "You're screwed. Figure it out." He closed his eyes to think.
