Who: Steve and Maryanne
Where: The Park
What: A random run in
When: Wednesday afternoon
Rating: High for Maryanne
Open: No
Status: Ongoing
Steve had had enough of the apartment and he needed to get out. The heat was getting to be too much for his asthma. Plus, he really liked to draw and the best place to do that, he'd found so far, was the park.

He made sure to bring water, which Marian insisted he needed to take with him. She really did remind him of his mom. And as much as he liked being cared for, he knew that she'd want him out of the way as soon as the baby came. And he didn't want to over stay his welcome.

Sketch book and water bottles in hand, and wearing only a light t-shirt and some of his fatigues pants, he headed out to find a shady spot in the park. At least there was a breeze going, so he was happy about that. He rested his back against a tree and pulled out his pencil, starting to draw whatever he saw. As he usually did, he wondered what everything would look like in color, rather than the black and white his world had always been in.

Maryanne had a throbbing headache. And she loved it. How long had it been since she got so drunk that she'd felt it clear after noon? She couldn't even remember. She chuckled at herself, which set the baby in the pram she was pushing into squeals of his own laughter.

Why was she even trying to remember? All she knew is it was a good feeling. Something that made her normal. Even though she knew she'd eventually miss being different. There was nothing wrong with enjoying a good hangover.

"Hey, Steve!" She called over when she spotted the smaller preCap. Maryanne's attire was a nod to the heat, and her legs, barely covered by the short tattered denim shorts, and possibly the way her bust filled out the tight red halter top...

Steve looked up when he heard Maryanne call his name, then nearly turned as red as Maryanne's top when he saw her outfit. "Um...hi." He grinned. "Out to get a little cool air yourself, huh?" He looked back down at the sketch he'd been working on.

"Yep. Me and my little man here, thought it would be nice to wander through the park." Maryanne purred in her slow southern drawl. It was hard to miss the blush that seemed to run from his hairline clean down his shirt. She fought the urge to grin. Though it was a rather hard fight.

Steve put his sketchbook aside and got to his feet, walking over to Maryanne and looking at the baby. "He's beautiful." He smiled. "What's his name?"

"Timothy Daryl Dixon." There was no small amount of love in her tone as she rattled off her son's name. The little blonde waved a chubby fist, and cooed softly.

"Well, hello there Timothy." He smiled and took the baby's hand, shaking it gently. "It's very nice to meet you."

"Careful, he's got his Daddy's grip." And true to form Tim squeezed the hand that was offered, though it wasn't any stronger than a six month old baby's should have been. But it was definitely firm. "He likes to use it to pull his Mommy's hair. No matter how short it is." It was one of the reasons she was letting it grow out. It didn't matter the length, he was going to find a way to yank at it no matter what she did. But she was a proud Momma, that much was obvious.

"That he does." Steve chuckled. "I think most babies like to pull hair. Especially when they're first learning how to grab things." He shrugged. "My mom used to tell me stories about how I would get my fingers tangled in her hair. It was really curly." He cleared his throat, trying to keep the feelings that were coming up at bay. Thinking about his parents always made him sad.

Maryanne could only smile. She didn't have any stories, or memories that were nice like that. Of her mother, or her father. She was simply glad that neither one of them were here. Not that she hated her Mom, she simply had no love for a woman that would allow her husband to beat his children the way her Dad beat them. "He likes to try and put it in his mouth too, but that's normal too."

Steve nodded and smiled, pulling his hand away gently. "He's really cute." He looked around and then at Maryanne. "Do you want to come sit in the shade for a minute?" He certainly wouldn't mind the company.

Maryanne smiled easily. She knew her son was beautiful, he'd been made with the most beautiful man she'd ever met. But she wasn't going to say that out loud. "Sure. I'll let him play in the grass for a little bit."

Steve smiled and made his way over to the tree under which he'd been sitting. He looked around and made a face. "I don't have a blanket or anything."

Plucking the baby from his pram she snagged the blanket that was beneath him at the same time, it dangled from the little diapered bottom, with a bag full of toys and other things babies seemed to need. "I come prepared."

It took a moment to fan the blanket out for Tim and settled him down on it. Dropping a few of his favorite toys within reach. "Not that it matters. He'll probably venture over to the grass and try to eat it." Maryanne settled herself down not far from Steve.

Steve smiled. "He really is adorable." He sighed a little, shaking his head before deciding to go back to his drawing. "Um, I never got to thank you for dancing with me."

"You don't have to thank me, I had fun." She'd hoped he had too. After all that had been what it was about, hadn't it?

Maryanne watched Tim swat away at the toys, just making bubbly noises with his lip and tongue. Pleased to simply make bubbles as he was the feel of the breeze on his skin.

Steve nodded. "Well, it's the polite thing to do so..." He smiled. "And I did have fun." Even seeing the other Steve and Peggy together didn't hurt quite as much.

"True, but your thanks was with the dancing." Even if he had done a good bit on her toes. He was light enough that it hadn't mattered much.

He nodded and sighed a little before pulling the page he'd been working on out of the book and crumbling it up. He set it beside him and started on another drawing, watching Tim playing around on the blanket for a bit.

Maryanne just watched him watching Tim for a moment, before she gave her head a little shake. "How are you finding yourself, Steve? Getting used to the place yet?"

"I....yelled at Steve and Peggy this morning." He made a face and started on the drawing, looking up at Tim every now and then.

"Why'd you do that?" Maryanne would have to say she'd be a little weirded out if she had to yell at herself for anything. But she also didn't have a double here.

"They were just being so....stupid." He sighed and shook his head, continuing to draw. "I told them that they should be together. But Steve said that I should be with Peggy. And then Peggy was saying she couldn't choose between us. I just got so mad." He jumped a little when the tip of the pencil broke. He hadn't even realized that his strokes had changed.

"I told them to just sit down and shut up and work things out because I wasn't going to be the reason that they were both miserable."

"That's pretty nobel. Considering you probably have feelings for her too." Reaching behind her, at the small of her back, she retrieved a rather long knife that was tucked in the band of her shorts. Offering it to him handle out so that he could sharpen the broken pencil.

"I can't say that I could have done the same thing, if I were in your shoes."

Steve's eyes went a little wide when he saw the knife and he just shook his head. "No thank you." He smiled and reached into the cargo pocket on his pants, pulling out a small pencil sharpener.

"I do have feelings for her, but they're nothing compared to what they have. When they look at each other...." He shook his head. "She's never looked at me like that."

With a slight shrug she eased the knife back into it's place with practiced ease. She'd kept her own there so long that it was the only natural place that she could stick it. To each their own.

"Well, technically, she is kinda looking at you like that. You become him, after all. He's just seventy-five years down the road." She felt a little bad for him. Knowing she caused that kind of trouble for someone here already.
