STATUS: Closed/Ongoing
Elrond had been greatly disturbed upon hearing Elladan's frightened message yesterday. At first he had thought that his son was simply mistaken - what, after all, could take a choice granted by the Valar from him? Only Eru could do such a thing. But as he listened and read the posts on the network, a fear began to grow in him, a fear that perhaps they had moved beyond the power of the Valar. Could it be that here, in this place, the choice the peredhel had been granted had been taken from his son? Was he doomed now to be mortal, to age, decay, die and pass from the world as Elros had? As Arwen would? It was a thought that brought with it great pain, and brought up emotions that he had long tried to repress. Always had those he loved passed from the world, and left him behind. His mother and father, Maedhros and Maglor, Elros...Celebrían...
He realized logically that many of these had not been done by choice, but the truth remained that some of them had.
But that was not what was happening now. He needed to concentrate on the task at hand, and not rehash past pains. His son did not wish to leave him, or at least, he had not yet made the choice to do so. And he needed his wisdom and support. So he would have to once again suppress his fears - for there was no one to listen to his. At least his son would not feel so abandoned.
He steepled his hands as he sat before his son, listening to him speak and attempting to be a calming influence on the boy.
"I have heard little that makes sense," he said softly. "There are none here who knows how or why such a thing has happened, or when it will end. Are you certain that you have lost the grace of the Eldar?"
