When Silver woke up, he hadn’t expected for his body to feel so sore and for his mattress to feel so hard. He stretched his arms and legs and opened his eyes. Everything around him was dark. Light was barely touching the walls. Walls that weren’t his. The dream he had had came back. He had wandered aimlessly through a city. A city that was empty of life. He scared, scared and lost. He tried to reach out to his sister, connect with her and let her hear his scream for help. But she couldn’t find her. She was gone. Everyone from his tribe was gone. He didn’t know what had happened. Maybe someone had killed them all and took him to this place. Maybe his mind was going crazy. Was this how his brother saw the world? But it couldn’t be. He hadn’t mimicked someone in over a year! Silver had wandered the city for hours, had climbed into buildings and onto roofs. There were a few higher ones and it seemed only logical to their direction to get a good glimpse of the whole city. But he was too tired to carry on walking at some point. It had already been well past midnight before he had reached this place and that was the odd thing, wasn’t it? He had suddenly just been here. There were whole parts of his memory missing. He shuddered and pushed himself off the ground. It wasn’t really cold but he still felt like he was freezing. Silver glanced outside again, rubbing his arms to regain some warmth. Light, there wasn’t much of it but it clearly was there. He stepped towards the windows, the floor boards creaking underneath his bare feet. There were street lamps. Working street lamps. Adrenaline set his body on fire. If they were working, the city couldn’t be abandoned, could it? He tugged his locks back behind his ears and stared at the light. Then suddenly he rushed outside. It was dark. He needed to get to the high buildings see if he could find a building with lights on. |
