She didn't believe him, because taking anything at face value right now would be a mistake, but at least it seemed that she'd headed off the possibility of an immediate battle. Sidda wasn't a combatant, she stayed firmly away from that side of things, but it wasn't as if he'd care about that. Maybe he wouldn't want to kill her, but she'd heard chilling accounts of how the Order treated their enemies, and she had no intention of becoming his prisoner or his hostage, either. It wasn't by chance that her defensive posture left her wand arm free. Better still if she could avoid a fight altogether, though, and his casual greeting meant that she was steering him the right way.
Sidda shook her head. 'I'm babysitting her, for a friend,' she replied. An easy lie, for as long as Sofronia slept. No need to let Remus know how much the little girl meant to her. 'Her mother's going to worry if I'm not there when it's time to pick her up, but I can't take the risk of trying to apparate out of here.' She couldn't be sure just how far she was from home, but it was a fair estimate that the splinching probably wouldn't be survivable.
'You said you've been here before?' That same light tone, no attempt to close the physical distance between them. 'It's an astonishing view. I've never seen anything like it. You must have been amazed.' No direct questions. There were at least a dozen she wanted to ask, but if he thought she was pressing him for information, he'd shut down. Especially if he really was responsible for all this.
