Annie inclined her head, pondering. "Well... hmm..."
"No." she said firmly, to start, taking a mimed deep breath she spoke carefully, her voice filled with truthful emotions. "I didn't think there was anything to forgive, frankly. Her argument was that an innocent life was destroyed because you didn't own up to allowing Higgs to find the information about the heart. In truth, from what I understand, anyone of us could have been guilty of such a transgression. His powers were memetic, like a virus feeding off of thought. There is no defence I know of that can stop that flow of information."
Annie smiled, afterwards, placing her hand on top of Katherine's she maintained eye contact. "But you are my friend. You are one of the few people on the station I would consider to truly be a friend. You helped me acclimatise to this place, you rescued me from a planet, you have been there to help me with my own... episodes. For you I would forgive great sins against others if I believed you did them for just reasons. Or..."
She grinned, a hint of rose-tipped malevolence flashing through her eyes. "I could forgive if you asked me to for the right reasons." Annie raised her glass to her mouth, taking a long draught and pouring a top up into each vessel between them. "What I meant was that I had no other option but to forgive you because of our relationship. I would never have been able to understand her perspective."
