He had needed space. No, what he had needed was peace. The peace he had almost gotten. He had been so close. He could have been reunited with his family or so he hoped. He had not thought about that where they would go after death. Or at least, he could not remember those thoughts. He felt like he couldn't remember many thoughts. All the surface knowledge was there but once he dug deeper memories started slipping through his fingers. He remembered Shannon. Of course he did. But he did not remember how they had met. There were holes punched through his very being. His soul lay shattered in pieces, even though his counterpart had tried to smooth it over, try to mend what was mendable. But not everything had been. There was a rage welling up inside of him at the thought what it had fed. Who else had been fed on in a similar way. But they had peace now. Whatever had been left of them. He, he had this.
The god stared ahead at a tree. His form almost translucent. There wasn't much strength to the young ghost. Emotion he could not quite understand whirled inside of him. But while his form lay in turmoil, his mind felt numb. He was here for revenge. He had been whispered words like that, had been told that this was his chance to rid the universes of the man that had taken everything from him. He knew about revenge. It had been his bread and butter for decades. But he could not see it. If his counterpart's words rang true (and he knew himself well enough to be sceptical about it), he had not been the only trapped version of himself. How could it go a different way this time? How could it not end in pain and despair? He sank to his knees and tried to make sense of everything that had happened.
