When Sophia first arrived at the club, she would find only Rawdon sitting with two champagne glasses and a bottle. She might notice the party decorations, but Rawdon would have left the lights off everywhere except just at the area he was occupying.

After initial greetings of 'happy birthday' and so on, Rawdon popped the cork on the champagne - and everyone else knew that that was their cue to leap out of their hiding places, for the club lights to switch on, the music to start, and everyone to shout "SURPRISE!"

"Then let's leave it till more people are around and we can make an announcement. Everyone who wants to join, can join..." Suzume suggested with a smile and a nod. "We used to do play them either when it was getting later or no 'proper' adult was around." Proper adult included everyone over 30. "You learn all kinds of weird things when you play games like 'never have I' or 'truth or dare'. Kat was astonishingly sober after the last round of 'never have I'."

Not that she was a goodie two shoes, but that helped her feel a little less naughty, if they were less likely to get caught by responsible adults. She smiled at that idea giving a little nod. "That sounds like a great idea. And I feel a whole lot less bad about it. I mean, there are a few people here that I'd like to not disappoint, and there are things that I'd rather not know."

Zu knew the feeling. She had had her fair share of being an outlaw and the last time... the last time it had even felt good. But it was easy to feel good about breaking the rules of a corrupted government.

"I promise, you won't need to do anything you don't want. I've never understood why some people seem to enjoy making others do horrible things." She preferred the silly tasks... the ones where you felt daring or ridiculous but it was all in good faith and with often needed humor.

"Well, I don't mind doing to much blushy stuff, there are issues that I have kinda gotten over. It was the one thing about having a semi normal boyfriend for as long as I did, so I don't think I'll have to worry about having to do anything that's triggering." At least she hoped. But there was no real way to know for sure, was there? Not until it happened. But she wouldn't worry about it until it happened.

"But truth or dare and never have I ever sound fun." Sophia didn't want to rain on her own parade.

Zu nodded. There was a reason she had not spoken upon her arrival here. Some days from her past would forever be burned into her mind. While she craved to share them with a friend who already knew in her time, she would not pick such a sour topic on a birthday.

"I understand. I shall tell you one day why I understand but let us not spoil the mood today. The you from my world already knew. It can make talking to people very odd. I know so much more about you than you do about me." She smiled excusingly. "Sometimes you even fall into traps because things are different in a timeline. Like people who arrived in my timeline but not in this." Or parents which were separated.

"Oh! So you'll probably go back to being younger when Bill, and them do?" Sophia didn't know why but that made her a little sad. One less person that was closer to her age. While she knew they all had to go back eventually, she liked not being the sandwich middle.

She looked to Maryanne's kids, who seemed to be having a blast on the stage. And the others she knew were aged up. Henry, Harri... While cute little kids, were awesome adults.

Suzume shook her head. "I don't think so. I haven't been younger for over a year now. I think this is going to be my life now." She did not know if she would change her age again but she did not think that she wanted to go back to her old age.

"My older self, half a year ago, avoided making friends because she clung onto the idea of going back to her timeline." Zu shook her head. "I don't want that. I don't know how long this is going to last. It would be great if we could be friends here too." She said with a smile. Zu understood not having too many her age far too well.

Without thinking about it Sophia gave the other girl a little hug. She was happy, though she felt a little bad about being happy that at least she wouldn't be going back if the others went back. "Sorry." She offered when she stepped back. "I kind of got happy, but then sad at the same time."

She poked out her lower lip just a little. She didn't know if Zu was happy about her predicament yet or not. Considering everything she'd been through... it was hard to pedict.

A genuine smile spread on Zu's lips. She was glad for the hug and she was glad for the sentiment. "It's okay. I understand!" She had had similar feelings more than once. "This is not an ideal situation but I think we stationers are masters of making the best out of a terrible situation. I'm glad that whatever happened to me created at least a bit of joy." She smiled again.
