Who: Richie and Bill (maybe Eddie later)
What: Richie smol
Where: Bill's room
When: Middle of the night Sunday
Closed/Ongoing/Richie

Richie woke up suddenly, grabbing for his glasses from his side table. He almost knocked them off but caught them and shoved them on his face. They felt weird and slipped down his nose so he pushed them back up. He’d dreamt of the clown again, of the statue mocking him and Eddie’s mouth spewing black sludge. He rubbed his face for a moment then finally looked up. This wasn’t his room. Wasn’t his house. There was someone asleep next to him.

Was this It again? Had he ended up back in the house on Neibolt street? (Had he never left?)

He looked at the body next to him. It was a man; much older than him, but familiar somehow. This had to be It. It was taunting him somehow. He was careful not to make any noise, carefully crawling out of the bed backwards so he didn’t take his eyes off the man until he’d made it to the door. He didn’t feel like the man was dangerous, for some reason; if anything, Richie felt safe there, but he was still too scared to risk waking the man up. What could this be if it wasn’t It trying to make fun of him? To scare him?

The hall was just as unfamiliar as the room had been but he had to get out. He would have to try every door until he found the right one. At least none of them had any creepy writing on them this time. He started with the one next to the one he’d just come from, cracking the door just barely then opening it wider when there wasn’t anything horrible on the other side. There had been a light on in the hall and just enough seeped in to the room so Richie could see the bed, the person in it.

“Bill?” he said out loud, without meaning to. “Holy shit, Bill.” he crossed the room and jumped on the bed. Bill still looked normal, and somehow he just knew that it was really him. “Bill, what the fuck?”

Bill had been asleep.

And then there was a minor earthquake and he jolted awake only to hear Richie swearing at him. "Stop! S-s-stop it, Richie!" he said, grabbing his pillow and swinging it at his friend before dropping back down onto the mattress and shutting his eyes tight - he was tired and there was a bright light coming from somewhere.

And then he realized something. Richie was not a 40-year-old man any more. "Ruh-richie?" he asked, and carefully opened his eyes again. The light from the hall was bright but it let him see his friend, up on his bed. He grinned sleepily when he saw that it was indeed Richie at his proper age.

Richie groaned when the pillow made contact with the side of his head, knocking his glasses sideways and messing up his hair even further than his sleep had. "Fuck you. You gotta get up. Something weird is going on."

But then Bill looked at him strangely, like he'd expected someone else? "No, it's fuckin' Buddy Holly." he fixed his glasses and threw Bill's pillow back at him. "Seriously, something is wrong. Where the hell are we?" It didn't look like Neibolt, and Bill was acting like Richie was the weird thing here, not the fact they were in some house he didn't recognize.

Bill grunted when the pillow hit him in the face, and grabbed it again, then sat up. "It's m-muh-my room," he pointed out, and then he realized another thing. Richie might as well be a new arrival. Shit.

"Ih-it's okay. Nuh-nothing's ruh-ruh-wrong, I p-promise. C-c-c-calm down, and I, I, I'll eh-explain," he said, and rubbed at his eyes as he tried to wake up.

Richie looked around and held out his hands, "Are you blind? This is not your room." His eyes moved back down to Bill, "And even if it was, how did I get here? And why was there...someone else in the bed when I woke up. And WHY are these not my glasses!" He shoved them up his nose again, his voice getting a little louder and a little more frantic the more he went on.

He sighed and tried to focus himself, moving so he was sat on Bill's bed, rather than kneeling over him, "Okay fine. Explain." he said, though his knee still bounced nervously.

Bill fumbled at the lamp on the bedside cabinet, bringing the light up enough that Richie could see all of the room without being bright enough to blind himself. Then he got up out of bed and went to close the door so that nobody else would hear them being awake so late.

"This is m-my ruh-room. L-l-look at the a-a-ar-ar... the d-d-drawings on the wuh-wall, and it's g-got all my stuff," he said, climbing back onto the bed once he'd lifted his phone and sitting cross-legged so that he was facing Richie. He was tired, his stutter wasn't good. "Here ih-is... I'll shuh-show you in a m-m-minute. B-but we're n-not in D-d-derry. And it's oh-okay, our m-moms and d-d-d-dads don't nuh-know we're away. It's h-hard to eh-eh-explain."

"Th-th-the suh-someone else is Eh-Eddie. And they w-w-wuh-were, earlier. L-l-look," he said, and found some photos from earlier on his phone. It was the three of them - Bill had insisted. He hadn't looked back further, but he felt certain that there were pictures of the three of them from when he was older as well. That might need to wait, though. "Th-that man's y-y-you. I'm n-n-not luh-lying, I swuh-swuh-swear."

Richie finally really looked around, beyond the shape of the room and lack of window and the different furniture. And it really was Bill's. He had clearly inhabited this space for a long time, touches of him on everything. His brow was deeply furrowed as he looked back at his friend. It all made perfect sense and none at all. "If we're not in Derry then where are we?" He asked, not even noticing Bill's stutter.

"That wasn't Eddie, this guy was like sixty or something" But Richie also kind of already knew that Bill was right. He took the phone from Bill. Staring at a face the was and wasn't his was...jarring. He could tell right away that Bill wasn't lying, he hadn't needed to be told that. The photo was proof right there. That was definitely him, there was really no way to deny that. And now that he really looked, it definitely was Eddie too. He looked older, like his own photo-reflection was, with more lines and a scar on his cheek, but still distinctly Eddie.

Why were we in bed together?

The question crept in to his thoughts but he pushed it away just as quickly. They shared beds all the time, just like he did with Bill and Stan. It was just friendship. "And what the fuck is this?" Richie said then, holding up the phone, because it would fill time while his mind worked over everything Bill had said.

"It's a, a phone," Bill said, and then got down off the bed again. He had sweaters somewhere. A big one, which had to have been from his older self, which he pulled on over his pajamas, and another one which was his, which he threw over at Richie.

"C-c-come on, I'm g-gonna show you where wuh-we a-are," he said, and opened his door again. He'd take Richie out to the park and show him the planet, and then they could just come back to his room and go to sleep.

"Weird fuckin' phone." Richie said but didn't push the point, just putting the phone back on the bed and catching the sweater from Bill. He could go back to that later. He pulled the sweater on over his already-over-sized t-shirt. He only just realized now that the boxers he wore were in fact not his sleep shorts, and was just grateful that the elastic was tight enough to keep them from falling.

He stood and followed Bill back toward the door. "You've been here a while, haven't you." he commented as they walked.

"Ah-almost a yuh-year," Bill replied, even if he didn't remember 3 months of it. He spoke quietly as they walked through the halls, not wanting to wake anyone up. It didn't take long to reach the kitchen, and Myrkvan padded over to say hello. Bill skritched the wolf-dog's ears for her, and got licked for his troubles.

"M-m-myrkvan, this is Ruh-richie. Richie, th-th-this is mmmMyrkvan. She wuh-won't hurt you, p-p-p-promise. I d-don't see Fenrir, he might b-be outsuh-side."

He headed over to the door that led outside, and Myrkvan went back to her spot, and glanced round at Richie. This was possibly going to blow his friend's mind quite a lot, so he started talking as they went out into the park. "Okay, s-so, wuh-we're on a s-s-sp-space st-station and it's nuh-nuh-nowhere n-near Earth. I d-d-d-don't know how we guh-got here, only th-that w-we are, and nuh-nobody knows how t-t-to get huh-home yet. B-but it's g-g-guh-good here. Everyone's r-really nice, ah-and you've a-a-already g-got a ruh-room here w-w-with the p-p-people who adopted m-me. Y-you and Eh-Eddie. B-b-but yeah, wuh-we live in S-s-sp-space now." Then Bill pointed up at the massive gas giant that filled almost half the 'sky' above them, and the starscape beyond.

Richie followed Bill's lead and was careful not to make too much noise, though it was difficult not to ask many, many questions. The dog surprised him, and he jumped slightly, but seeing the way Bill interacted with her set him at ease and he reached over to repeat the ear scritches, "Gross." He commented, rubbing a slightly slobbery hand on the borrowed sweater when he got licked in turn.

Richie followed Bill out, listening but not quite sure what to make of his words. Not until he saw the sky. He just stared for a minute, eyes wide, then he sat in the grass. It was not a graceful or intentional motion, mostly he just fell back, landing on his butt with his legs out in front of him. He'd gone on a two month obsessive astronomy binge in the second grade but he'd never seen anything like this, not even in drawings.

When he finally looked back to Bill there were tears in his eyes, though he wouldn't have been able to really say why. It was...overwhelming. going from a weird, but mostly normal, kid to one that fought evil shape-shifting clowns and werewolves, to one that lived in space.

"We're in space." He just said quietly, though his voice got a little louder, but no more steady, as he kept speaking. "We're in space and you live with a wolf and I was old yesterday but now I'm not and Eddie still is and...this is insane!"

Bill just sat down beside Richie when his legs stopped working, his arms resting on his pulled-up knees, and let Richie process things. He could feel his friend's brain buzzing through all sorts of weird thoughts, which was new, so he just sort of leaned against him.

Then there were almost-tears, and Richie being quiet for a little while.

"I, I nuh-know it ih-is. I've b-been here w-w-without you g-g-guh-guys for months now, and, and everything ah-about it is b-b-batshit cruh-cruh-crazy. But it's real." He put an arm around Richie's shoulders after that, and held him close. "It's r-r-real, and it's guh-good."

Richie just let his head rest on Bill's shoulder; it was soothing, if he focused on his friend, like Bill's calm was contagious. Everything about this was completely unbelievable, and kind of terrifying, but if Bill said it was okay, good even, it had to be true right?

He had a million and a half questions but, for what felt like the first time he could remember, Richie didn't know what to say. So, instead of trying to figure out any more about the new place, he just focused himself on right now. "Can I stay in your room tonight?" he asked. Not wanting to be alone but not wanting to wake up old-Eddie either.

"Yeah, of c-course," he said, letting his cheek rest against Richie's hair. It had been pretty cool meeting older Richie and older Eddie, he thought, but he sure was glad that Richie at least was back to normal. Maybe Eddie would turn back soon as well, and that would be fantastic.

"D-do you wuh-want anything to eat?" he asked, just as an aurora storm started down on the planet. "L-look," he added, and pointed it out to Richie.

"Yeah sure." Richie said, never really one to turn down food. It was nice to just sit there with Bill, but he knew they'd have to get up and go back to bed eventually. He did feel a little bad about waking Bill up in the first place.

He looked to where Bill was pointed and just stared for a few minutes. It was beautiful. Beautiful in a way that made Richie think it wasn't something his own mind would have been able to come up with. Bill must have been right. This was real and maybe it wouldn't be too bad. Bill seemed happy enough, and at least he wouldn't be alone. "Thanks Bill."

"You're w-wuh-welcome. C-c-come on," he said, after the storm died down a little, and got to his feet, then held his hand out to help Richie get up as well. "W-we should go c-camping some night s-s-soon," he suggested, because the snow was going to come soon, and he didn't fancy spending all night out in snow at all. Unless they built an igloo... huh. Although Ben wasn't here, and he was the one who knew how to build things.

When they got back into the kitchen, Bill headed straight for the fridge. Myrkvan was sitting by the inside door, and she gave a yip when she noticed the boys coming back inside, before heading over towards Richie.

Eddie slid his arm over as he woke up and felt only empty space next to him. "Richie, come back to bed." He muttered, then opened his eyes when there was only silence. Don't panic, he reminded himself. Richie probably got up for a snack or to a trip to the washroom. He could think of some old man prostate jokes while he waited. As time passed, he told himself Richie went for a late night trip to Bryn's, or in search of something to help himself sleep, and didn't want to wake him up.

Eddie stood from the bed and made it, then wrapped a robe around his pajamas, stepped into his slippers, grabbed a book off the nightstand and walked out of the room. He made his way to a chair in the living room, turned on a lamp and began to read. It was a nice excuse to wait up for him and see for himself that everything was fine.

Richie was mostly himself by the time they got back to Bill's house, going back and forth between talking about camping and food and igloos as they raided Bill's kitchen.

He jumped a little when the wolf-dog made a noise, she still freaked him out just a tiny bit, but reached down carefully to pet her. But then she moved back toward the door and made a noise again. "What, I thought you liked that?" She did a weird little half jump withe her front feet and turned toward the next room. Richie gave her a look and something caught on and he followed her.

He saw someone sitting in the living room, and recognized him from before. "Oh. Uh...hi." he raised a hand, Bill's over-sized sweater hanging over it.

Eddie was grateful that he could overhear enough from the kitchen to recognize that there were two kid voices, Bill and Richie.  It gave him time to prepare himself for the sight of Richie as a real kid, not just his partner trapped in a kid's body.  He gave a small smile when Richie walked in.  There was a sense of loss for not having the adult version, and a growing sense of hope.  Richie could be happier as an adult if he grew up here.  No years of self-hate in the closet or lonely career.  That was more important than his own needs.

"Hi." Eddie gave a small wave.  "This is a first.  I think I'm taller than you, even when I'm sitting down."   Maybe that was saying too much.  "Do you know who I am?"

"Baaaarely." Richie rolled his eyes and stepped further in the room, "And only 'cause you're cheating." He sat on a couch across from Eddie. "Yeah, Bill showed me a picture."

He pushed the sleeves of the sweater up and put a hand through his hair. It was weird, he recognized his friend in the man in front of him, but he was so different at the same time and there always an odd emotion in the room, somehow both sad and happy at the same time. "Sorry I left you alone, I didn't know what was going on and sorta freaked out."

Eddie smirked. "I'm not cheating.  I didn't make you a kid." He nodded. There was a picture on his phone too that he really wished he could show him, of a bridge. "Did he tell you that you were old, as old as me?"

Eddie looked away for a moment.  His Richie would have been sorry to leave him alone. "Nothing to be sorry about.  I was asleep anyway."  Sleeping while this bad or good thing happened. He had to stop letting his mind go to the bad. He looked back to him. "Are you still freaked out?"

"I still think it's cheating." Richie nodded, "Yeah, I was old in the picture too. I looked weird." Eddie didn't look as weird as he thought he did, even here in front of him. Old as hell, yeah, but not weird.

"Kinda." he shrugged a little. It didn't quite feel right, talking to a grown-up like this. Normally they didn't listen much when he talked so he didn't really share the important stuff with them. "But Bill says it's safe and it's good here, so it must be."

"No weirder than you look now."   Eddie teased.  There was no way he could tell him that his adult self was handsome until he was an adult again, even if it took years.  He had to hope that Jake and Clint were right and he'd get another chance to say that and other things sooner.

"It is."   Eddie agreed.  "Sometimes, strange stuff happens.  Like being the wrong age."  He could have meant either of them.  "But, yeah, safe and good.  You can be yourself here."

Richie stuck his tongue out, closing his eyes and scrunching his nose to try and make a weird face at Eddie, breaking it when he laughed a moment later.

He was glad to hear the extra reassurance, if Bill said it and Eddie said and Eddie was even a grown-up, then he definitely didn't have anything to worry about. He laughed again and joked, "When have I ever not been myself? Have you met me?" His detention record certainly read like a list of Richie being himself a bit too much.

Eddie chucked at the face.

He couldn't bring himself to laugh the second time, or even smile. He knew Richie had been afraid to be himself for so long, and would be a second time if being on the station didn't make things better for him.  "Good point.  It'll be even easier here."  Fuck.  He sounded like a lame adult.  It was what he had become during all the time without his memories and friends.  "There are no assholes like Bowers around."   He added as an explanation.

Richie could feel it, that there was something else there, beyond just what Eddie was saying, and a slow sort of panic grew in his chest. Did Eddie know, all of the things he'd tried so hard to keep hidden. He'd sworn to himself that he would never say, he would never let anyone know how messed up he was. He couldn't, it must be something else. He just didn't want Richie to worry about bullies, that was all it was.

"I uh, yeah. Cool, that's really good." Richie nodded, pulling the sweater's sleeves up again. "Too bad your mom's not here though, I'm gonna miss her." he added, forcing a grin.

"Shut up."  Eddie said, trying to make things feel more normal.  He could sense that he might have let on too much. He didn't want to scare Richie away. "Not as much as I miss your sister."

Eddie thought back to a promise he'd made on the bridge.  "I might become a kid, like you did."  He got up from his chair and sat down next to Richie on the couch. "I know you were joking, but if my mom ever does show up here and I'm a kid, make sure the adults here know about her bullshit.  They'll stop it."

Richie just stuck his tongue out and smiled a little. At least that was familiar.

"Seriously? And you want me to do it?" Richie almost hoped she would show now, just so he could see how mad she got when no one bought all of her lies and bullshit. He couldn't be sure, and didnt know if it was real or just his own wishful thinking, but he had a feeling Eddie was right about being a kid too. It just felt like something that would be true soon enough.

Eddie nodded.  "Yeah, you have to. Because I won't do it, not as kid."He'd stand up to her as an adult now, to keep his promise to Richie. Hell, he'd do it for himself too.

Eddie had his phone with him, in the pocket of his robe. He never went too far without that phone. "I have some more pictures of old you." He took his phone and held it out so Richie could see.The first photo was adult Richie caught the act of stealing fries off Eddie's plate during a meal. He could remember that so well, complaining about germs and Richie teasing him about all the ways they shared germs now. The next one was a selfie of him and Richie in the park, walking to their bench, both happy and laughing over his group zip-zip. He stopped there, deciding not to show him the bridge or the bench, at least not yet. "You didn't look weird."

"Can I watch them tell her too? She's gonna go nuts!" He laughed, excited for the prospect of seeing Sonia freak out, but also because then she wouldn't be able to torture Eddie anymore. And it would have been because of him.

He leaned in to Eddie's side to look at his phone, laughing a little. He liked the pictures, he liked that they had still been friends. He wondered if he had any photos like them, since both Eddie and Bill did. He hadn't looked for any of his stuff when he'd left the room. "At least I was still taller than you."

He doubted his mom knew about Richie; it wouldn't stop her from throwing homophobic slurs at him.  "She'll be a bitch to anyone around."

"Yeah but she'd still lose." Richie felt like either way that would be satisfying.

"Average height in the Shire?" Richie teased, pushing up the glasses almost as soon as Eddie noticed them. "My stuff or old me stuff?" He wasn't sure what kind of person he'd been older, Bill and Sddie seemed to like him, so he couldn't have been too bad, but old people were usually pretty boring.

"I don't believe that." Richie said matter-of-factly. He knew he was wrong, but it was worth it. He stood up after Eddie, pulling his sleeves up again, then tugging the waistband of the boxers up just in case. "Lead the way my good man! Pip pip!" He did in his (bad) British accent, pointing.

The British guy."  He jokingly complained.  He turned the lights on the room and gestured to the bedside table. "Your glasses are in the top drawer." He'd insisted on Richie keeping them near in case of a situation similar to the candy. "Your phone's probably in there too; you should get used to using it." He added, as he gathered up Richie's kid clothes and other things.

"I think I'd rather just be wrong." Richie grinned following Eddie back toward the room he'd started the night in. He ignored Eddie's complaints about his voices like he always did.

He went over to the drawer and dug around a little, finding his glasses first and switching them out for the ones he'd been wearing. It was a bit of a relief, the prescription on the other ones had been close but a little different and these felt better. He went back to the drawer and found the phone, poking at it a little.

"Did we always share a room?"

Eddie opened a box with 'did you eat more mystery candy, dumbass' written on the side.  It had seemed funny at the time, a little surprise for the next time Richie was aged down in body, not mind, or happened to look at the box.  Now, it felt tragic.  "Here's some of your clothes.  Unless you want to keep walking around looking like the reverse hulk"

Eddie shook his head.  "No, we each had our own rooms at first. Then I asked you to move in here."  He'd been about to clear out old Richie's stuff for the kid version's belongings then realized that he might not want to share rooms now. "You can go back to your old room if you want.  It's still empty.  Or you could share with Bill."

Richie saw the box and looked at it for a moment. He didn't understand it, but at the same time he did. It was some kind of inside joke between this Eddie and the Richie he'd been a few hours ago. "You guys were weird." he said, but he was smiling while he said it. He liked it, it meant that they hadn't changed, not deep down where it counted.

"We can do that? They don't care if we move around and stuff?" he was about to ask if Eddie's mom would actually let them sleep in the same bed without screaming all night, before he remembered that she wasn't there. And that they had been grown ups.

"Yeah, we were. I must have caught your weird." Eddie smiled back. He liked that description much more than being boring. The man that he was now was better, simply for the short time he had as Richie's partner. "We were happy too. Really happy." If kid Richie figured it out on his own, he wanted him to know that.

"They won't mind. They might even help you move your stuff around." Eddie answered. "You can even switch around. Some nights on your own, some nights with someone else."
