It was impressive how much he was able to drink. Gen herself started to become light-headed if she drank a single beer too quickly. It made her scared. Losing control like that made her an easier victim. But John... he drank and felt unphased.
She took a sip of her own, her glass remaining mostly full. "I will... if I ever deem you one of the bad ones." She held his gaze. Her words honest and brutal in her tone. She would not sell out her loyalty like that. Her friends from her time held it but they had earned it over decades. But a man she had not even known for a year now but not get it. She wanted to trust him. He seemed and he seemed just as broken as she was. There was a connection there.
Then her tone took on a kinder shape. "But that is not right now. People sacrifice themselves for others. It's not you who is the evil, it's the demon." They should never forget that. "The man - he tried to turn us against each other again and again. He locked my friend into a room with two others from our time. They only released her after one of them had died. She was 12. He wanted them to kill each other. They refused but even if they had... they would not have been evil. He was the one putting them into that situation." The anger rose again in her. It was just one of the many situations she remembered. "You are bad when you start sending good people to Hell because you feel like it or because you think it's funny. If you ever start doing that, I will stop you." It was a matter of fact. She would. She wasn't sure what to think of the confession that he would not have made that sacrifice that he put his friend through. Gen had witnessed many sacrificed. So many had died in an act of bravery but not everyone was cut that way and to kill a friend like that... it was a different kind of bravery, wasn't it? Gen would have rather died than sacrifice her friend. But not because she was brave.
