"Well... You're probably a lot safer here, especially after what you told me last time. Everything I've been learning about that island and the things that went on there" John said, trying to be reassuring in his own way. John knocked back another glass of whiskey and refilled it. He had opened himself up too much and he was regretting it. It would be far too easy to say something rude and push her away, but she had seen a side of him that most didn't really know about. And it was going to be harder to push her away.
"I sacrificed one of my best mates to a hunger demon" he said, picking up the newly refilled glass briefly. He took a sip and placed it down. "They consumed one another and he died, screaming in agony. He was like that for days..." he added. John had stayed by his side the entire time, holding his hand through it all, while the angel Manny watched over them. It was one of the hardest things John had to do. To put the demon inside his friend. To have to trick him into being there for the demon.
"His name was Gary Lester. He agreed to do it. I didn't want him to... Not really but one of us had to do it. He felt it would give his life meaning. So he made a sacrifice I don't think I could ever make and now I live with his ghost" he said, lifting his gaze to look at her, hoping she wouldn't just look disgusted at him. He could remember how Zed screamed and shouted at him. Blamed and accused him.
"And I've sent good people to Hell too. So... if you decide that I'm one of the bad ones, maybe you should go, yeah?" John said trying to hold his gaze with hers.
