The conversation with John had gone from gentle to weird within a short time period. When the text with the apology had arrived, things had seemed even weirder. People here had secrets. In her time, secrets would have been their demise. The man in the tower would have used them. But this was not her timeline anymore. Gen had her mother. Rachel had her mother. Lucy even had both of her parents. It was good that this was not her timeline any longer.
While she knew where Bryn's bar was, Genevieve had not been there very often. There were many places to drink and dine around here. She preferred the dining over the alcohol. It was just not something that she had grown up with and it did weird things with her mind. Someone who was as paranoid as her could not afford a clouded mind.
When Gen entered the bar, she spotted John immediately. A smile spread across her face. "Hi," she said. She was nervous and she didn't know why. People still seemed to be leaving. Whenever she let someone into her life, they would vanish soon after. Her heart splintered with every heart break. "You... uhm, you don't look too good." He had an aura of gloom and doom about him. Exhaustion and worry. A cocktail she knew all too well.
