Her gaze landed on the little girl in the cotton and lace, Ashely's fingers caught up in TK's, as he explained how things were with married daughters in this time period. It did sound harsh, to drop her daughter like that. But Ashley had made it clear that she didn't want anything more to do with her family the minute she hooked up with Mr. Darcy. Family that had needed her in their loss, hadn't mattered. All that had mattered was her happiness, and the speed in which she could achieve it. Maybe things would be different with the younger one.
"So, what do I do? Just... ignore her? Pretend she doesn't exist?" Family had been so important to Shepard, once upon a time. Her own had been killed when she was young. It had been a very defining moment, it had decided the rest of her life course, no matter what her plans had been at sixteen.
His question, and the nudge, brought her out of that glum track of thought, a teasing grin plucking at the corners of her lips. "I wouldn't go that far. I like the people in it. All my gadgets are obsolete here." She touched her palm and brought up the incredibly useless omnitool on her right arm, only to touch it again and the tool vanish. She hadn't even brought it up the whole time they'd been in Queen's Crawley. "If we could have done it, would you have wanted to bring them with you, back to the station?" Her voice was soft, he didn't have to answer of course.
