When Shepard first remarked on her parenting skills, Rawdon looked to the two toddlers with a little confusion - he couldn't see anything irresponsible going on, but he quickly caught up with her thought process.
"Oh la, you're a wonderful mother where it matters," he commented, nodding to the little ones with them. "The other Ashley is grown, she'll make her own choices," he shrugged. Shepard couldn't be responsible for that - especially when there was no way to know what had happened between now and when that Ashley came from. She'd known her father, after all. It was a different timeline. Anything could have happened.
"You know, it probably sounds medieval to you, but in this world, a married daughter is of no real concern to her parents anymore. She becomes her husband's responsibility - and I know you wouldn't want it to be that way really, but if she loves the regency so much..." he pulled a bit of a face. It sounded harsh, but perhaps the old-fashioned reality of a regency marriage would have Ashley running back to her mother in time. And if she didn't, that would mean she was actually happy with it and all the better.
"Oh, can it be? Commander Shepard liked the regency, too?" he teased, giving her a little nudge. He knew of course that his life and his family were a far cry from the Darcys. "I know... I am glad I got to see the old boy again. Now I have left things on a much happier note, after all."
