Complete!
The elevator wasn't moving fast enough. Which, given that it was one of the super-fast ones that went all the way down to the Spine in seconds, just showed how hyped up Dan was currently feeling. So what if he'd had another shit night and was currently running on coffee fumes? Who cared if there were armies of ghosts traipsing through his dreams? Not Dan Torrance, that's for sure! His dad was on the station and he was going to go meet him!
The elevator finally chimed as it stopped on the (hopefully) correct floor, and Dan stepped out onto a floor that seemed to be mostly residential. Taking his phone out of his jeans pocket, he brought up his dad's post and put his thumb on the little picture of Jack, and then waited. Within a few seconds, he knew exactly where his dad was, and what he was doing. Nice to see that trick worked over phones as well as with actual physical photographs. His dad was about a ten-minute walk away from the elevator, in the middle of the wheel. Not a problem.
Dan decided to run part of the way - not at top speed, not when he was as tired as he currently was, but faster than walking - and as his feet thudded down on the floor, a whole slew of questions danced through his head. How old was his dad now? What did he do? How was mom? What about himself, how was he getting on? Where did they live, had any ghosts shown up, had they gotten into trouble over the Overlook, what music did he like, was he okay, what was going on in his life, had he stopped drinking, had he ever finished the play or written any other books or stories, on and on and on, question after question...
And then he skidded round a corner, his sneakers squeaking against the flooring, and his dad was standing there, right there, and Dan's mind went completely empty. He just grinned before closing the gap between them both and pulling his dad into a massive hug.
