Bucky had been working on this basically anytime he could get an excuse to sneak away from Steve without him getting suspicious. Steve had told him some of the things his older self had revealed about their future, but what he'd really latched on to was the cafe that they apparently had opened. He wasn't sure why he was so focused on the idea, but he wanted to make sure that part of their future did come true.
He hadn't done much with the actual space yet; he had a feeling that Steve would want to be involved in that. But, he had claimed one of the empty stalls and spent some time clearing it out, cleaning all of the equipment. He'd also dug around the stalls and the stores in the mall to get as much as he thought they might need. They'd have to wait for another door where his dad's money was good to get some specialty equipment he wanted, but there was enough to get started. All of it was covered by a big drop cloth for the moment though, hung up in front of the stall almost like it'd been closed off.
What he had spent quite a bit of time on, was learning to bake with his mama. It may not be a year in France, but AJ was a great baker and he was soaking in as much as he could. Turned out he was actually pretty good at it and he enjoyed it to boot. So that was the surprise he had set up first, on a table in front of the stall. It was a spread of a whole bunch of pastries and little cakes and muffins, along with a fancy pot of coffee he'd gotten in Australia. He would present this to Steve first and once his husband started asking questions he'd be able to pull down the drop cloth. There was still a ton of work to be done before they could open, but he wanted to do all of that together, now that it seemed like maybe he and Steve would get a very long together.
He fussed a bit as he waited, moving plates around, checking the coffee was still hot (yes, same as it was 30 seconds ago). He'd even dressed up a little, his jeans nicer and a jacket pulled on over his t-shirt. He knew Steve wouldn't care, that he'd enjoy what he could no matter what it, or Bucky looked like, but he wanted the first impression to be a big one either way.
