"I am," Brenna's voice was spiteful. These creatures should leave her and her family alone! They had died with glory and deserved their place in Valhalla. She deserved a place in Valhalla or did she not? She had made mistakes, she had not always been good... she had cursed the gods for taking her parents at first. Brenna had not honoured their decision like she had been told to do. No, she had just wanted her parents back. The same had gone for Gunnar and later Njorfir. Maybe she was not punished for being childless, maybe that had already been the punishment. Wavering had made the gods angry and this was the path they had chosen for her. Were they talking about what to do with her? Were they making plans for how to continue her punishment? Regret, doubt and fear wallowed inside of her but she still stood tall, her fragile body keeping up the appearance of a strength she did not possess.

Kai quirked an eyebrow. Why any mortal would choose to bicker and jest with him in such a situation was nothing he could comprehend? The grief of humans carried strange faces. "I believe now is not the time for this kind of talk. Your last moments with her should be spent otherwise," Kai said as he started to wade back into the sea.
