“Well, I should hope not. That would make for a very unhappy marriage,” he whispered to her. “And I plan on making sure you’re very, very happy,” he assured her equally quietly.
There was a little niggle of concern, though he would not say it and risk upsetting her further. He wondered how common this was, and he got the impression it was a regular occurrence. Regular enough for the family to have established a tradition. Then there was the real possibility of her being taken back to her own time, or he might have to leave her unexpectedly and without warning. He hadn’t realised it was quite like that - it was hard to ignore at that exact moment though.
