Who? Dan and his AA group
Where? The apartment he's picked
When? Thursday evening, between 7pm and 9pm
What? AA Group
Open? To anyone who needs help with their drinking, or if they're accompanying someone who needs help.
Dan was in the room from half past six. He'd collected the coffee and food from Lacey and Isabel, and set it up on the kitchen table. He'd arranged all the chairs (and borrowed some from the apartment next door, just in case) into a rough circle. He'd written out the 12 steps on a couple of bits of paper and put them up on the wall, so that people could read them if they wanted, and he'd found a copy of the big book amongst his belongings, so it sat on a table in the main part of the room in case anyone wanted to look through it or borrow it.
The nervousness was new. He'd set up for meetings a lot in his 13 years in the AA, he'd even chaired a couple of the smaller ones, but this was all entirely new. He didn't know who was going to show up, or even if anyone would. Would he have to bring back most of the coffee and donuts? Was this going to work at all?
Still, if he didn't try, he'd never know.
7pm rolled round far too quickly. He poured himself a coffee and lifted a donut, then went over to sit on one of the couches. He'd brought a book with him to read while he waited (not Doctor Sleep. That would have been a bit too weird, all things considered.) and decided that he'd give it to twenty past. Half seven at the latest.
