In his younger years, Bobby had spent a lot of time traveling around Europe with his long term partner. They had never really had much of a plan, they'd just show up, find the art community, pick up their brushes and join in. Consuming copious amounts of alcohol along the way.
1947 was his year, so he felt confident that he wasn't going to slip up in some silly way. He knew the scene, he knew what was happening throughout Europe, who knew who was fucking who, who was getting ripped off, who was good and who was going out of fashion. He was able to keep up in conversation, and so despite his very bitty Spanish, he was able to worm his way in by simply producing a couple of sketchbooks for the big shots to have a look through and discuss.
His big chat and modern style had been enough to gain him a spot at a street market, alongside Cuban artists and a couple of Americans. He was rocking the Cuban summer style of the era in a wide-brimmed hat, short sleeved shirt and linen trousers, some of his brighter work adorned the railings behind him, a stack of monoprints were available for potential buyers to flick through at their leisure, and Bobby was working confidently at a travel easel with a pallet knife and lemon yellow.
