Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who? Ernest & Isabel (and/or Charlie)
Where? His apartment to start.
When? Shortly after Abi's reappearance.
What? Not having a breakdown.
Rating? TBD
Open? Ask first.

Charlie had done a damn good job of getting rid of all the booze. There was one half bottle of whiskey stashed on top of a tall cabinet in the study that he hadn't managed to find, but after a couple of straight mouthfuls, Ernest had decided to put it back where it was. An emergency supply of sorts.

People were being nice to him about it, and he was running the gamut of emotions. Angry to miserable to apathetic seemed to be the top contenders at the moment. He didn't want their pity, but at the same time he really didn't want to be left alone with himself.

Isabel. There had been an immediate pang of guilt when her message came through. He was going insane over the woman he'd loved over ten years earlier, and he had a perfectly good woman who knew who he was and for some reason still wanted him. How could she want to help him? It felt cruel to ask her for her help, but apparently he was in a cruel mood.

Isabel sighed softly. She took his hands in hers and just held them, looking down at their hands this time. "It's bravery stemming from the fact that she doesn't remember you." She shrugged. "I can say it now. And...I do mean it. I want to be with you." She brought his hands to her lips and kissed his knuckles. "All of that could change tomorrow."

Ernest worried his brow, watching her expression and trying his best not to feel incredibly guilty over the situation. He knew that it was just circumstances, and if anything was to blame it was the damn station, but he couldn't help but curse the timing of it. If they were further down the line, they'd have a better idea what they actually wanted.

"For today? Okay. I can get on board with that," he nodded, smiling affectionately as she kissed his knuckles. "Selfishly I kind of hope not, but... yeah, we'll go with for now."

Isabel sighed again. She wanted everything to be the way it was just two days ago. The two of them having fun and not worrying about much. Of course they would have things to worry about if Abi hadn't shown up but it wouldn't be this.

"All we can do is take it one day at a time." She wanted to make plans. To talk about next month, even next week, but that wasn't possible anymore. Everything could change in a flash. It was a really good thing she couldn't grant her own wishes.

That was the thing - he'd been miserable for years, and it felt like the moment he'd actually let go and tried to have something good, the universe just had to throw him another curveball. And he was sick of being miserable.

"Yeah, I guess so," he responded with a heavy sigh. It wasn't what he wanted to do, but they didn't have much of a choice. "All right, so I'm really fucking bored of moping my life away, so what do you want to do? For this one day of time."

"That, Mr Hemingway, is a very good question." She chuckled softly. Isabel looked around for a moment and finally really looked at where they were. "How about a swim?" She indicated the lake.
