Who: Isabel and Ernest
Where: the food court
What: getting lunch
When: Thursday afternoon
Rating: likely low
Open: no
Status: ongoing
Isabel had decided when she woke up that this was going to be a buffet kind of day. At least for lunch. Her talk with Neville had gotten her back comfortable using magic again so it was pretty easy. Along one wall of the seating area she set up several tables. Food warmers and some ice buckets as needed were spread about. She had gone with a back home barbecue kind of lunch.

There were ribs, brisket, chicken, and pulled pork. The sides were corn on the cob, potato salad, coleslaw, chips, and baked beans. Sje also had several kinds of pie, chocolate cake, and banana pudding. It had taken her a while but everything was out and ready before noon.

Ernest smiled despite himself, and it came a little easier this time. He gave her a nod of acceptance when she responded to his thanks.

He hadn't expected her to ask that, and just for a second the surprise must've shown on his face. He thought about, though. He knew he could trust her, didn't he? She hadn't told anyone about the gun, she hadn't pushed the point about the doctors, he could trust her.

After a moment, he gave her a nod of consent. "Sure. As long as it isn't a 'pity hug'," he added, although he didn't think it was really. "Then sure, that'd be good actually."

She was actually expecting a no when she saw the shock on his face, but was glad when it faded. "I don't do pity hugs." She smiled and got up, coming around to him. Rather than waiting for him to stand, she leaned down and wrapped her arms around him from behind, resting her chin on his shoulder.

"Any time you need me, doesn't matter when, I'm just a phone call away, okay?"

Ernest had been about to move, but found himself wrapped up in her embrace before he could move. He smiled, and let himself relax into it, lifting his hand to touch her arm. Her words seemed to tug at his soul, and he nodded a little before turning his head just enough to look at her, right there close to him.

"Okay. But you have to promise not to make it a one-way thing. If you grant a bad wish, or nearly burn the kitchen down, or whatever, I want to hear about that too, okay?"

Isabel shifted her head a little so she could look at him as well.

"Okay, I can handle that." She squeezed him a bit before giving him a quick kiss on the cheek. Maybe this could be good for both of them.

"Then it's a deal," he agreed, seeming a little brighter in spirits than when he had walked in. The kiss to his cheek made him smile, and just for a second, with her so close, he imagined what it would be like to kiss her properly. Except firstly, he was quite sure he would taste like old whiskey, stale smoke and bbq food right now, and secondly he didn't want to ruin an offer of friendship by being a total cad. At least not right away. "I'm glad I dropped by," he said instead.

"I am too, sugar." She grinned before standing up straight and patting his shoulder. Her hand lingered for just a little bit longer than it probably should have before she returned to her seat.

"So...do you have any plans for the rest of your day?"

She moved out of the hug, but Ernest could still feel her arms around him. He was sure he'd carry that embrace with him for a while now, feel it in his bones.

"Um... no. This is the first social visit I've made in... oh, I don't know, a long time anyway," he told her. "What about you?"

"Well, you should definitely change that." She chuckled. She was pretty sure she wouldn't be washing her shirt any time soon. She mentally shook herself out of the school girl craze that had apparently taken her over.

"Aside from waiting to see if this gets eaten...um....prepping for dinner." She chuckled. She did spend a majority of her time in the kitchen. "I suppose I could let Lacey handle dinner, though."

"Yeah, you know I think I might," he nodded. At least, he could think of one person he'd be paying a visit more often. It was entirely possible that staying in his apartment all day drinking by himself was actually pretty depressing. Isabel didn't seem to think he was anything less than he had been, which was sadly a big surprise to him.

He smiled at her answer, and gave her a pointed look. "Oh, and you tell me to get out more," he mocked lightly. "And if Lacey did dinner, what would you want to do?"

"I know. I'm a giant hypocrite." She fake lamented. She did need to get away from the kitchen, especially since she wasn't the only cook.

"That....is a very good question." She pursed her lips as she thought. "I've heard the observation deck is pretty great. Or maybe some shopping." She shrugged.

"Well, if you decide on the observation deck I could probably tag along. If it's shopping though, that's gonna be a hard pass," he told her with a chuckle.

"I'm not sure I'm much in the mood for shopping." She smiled as she picked at an imaginary spot on the table. "Maybe I could....put a picnic together. Since it would be dinner time."

"Is it even more boring when everything is just free for the taking?" he asked. He smiled a little; he'd been wondering if she even wanted his company, but that just confirmed him. "You just going to feed me all day?" he smiled. "I'm good with that."

"When you don't have to budget and there's nothing you actually have to save up to get it's not as rewarding." She shrugged. She did smile at his question.

"It's a way to guarantee you eat properly, isn't it?" She chuckled. "So....I guess it's a date?"

"It is that, but I think you not so secretly enjoy it, too," he insisted. His smile grew a little wider at her question, and he gave her a nod. He was probably reading a lot more into it than she intended, but it had been a hell of a long time since he'd just relaxed and let himself have some fun. "Yeah, it's a date."

"Mainly when I'm shopping for clothes." She admitted. She smiled a little wider at his nod. "So um...observation deck at 7?" That was an appropriate date time, wasn't it? Had it really been that long since her last date?

"Yeah, seven is perfect," he told her with a nod. He felt nervous and excited and idiotic all at once. "Thanks for lunch, Isabel. See you this evening," he told her, getting to his feet. About to turn to leave, at the last minute he decided to give her a quick hug and kiss on the cheek. "See ya."
