Who: June and Thomas
What: Revelations
Where: June's apartment
When: Backdated to Thursday night
Closed/Low/Ongoing

June was dressed a bit more like herself than she had been most other times Thomas had seen her. She had been using over-sized sweaters and leggings to hide her middle as much as she could, but now that he knew she didn't bother. Not that she really could anymore. At over seven months there was no hiding that she was pregnant, even if she hadn't been wearing the tighter shirt and maternity jeans.

She had used her time in New York to get some of the things that made her apartment feel more comfortable and familiar. Including a normal coffee maker. She set a pot to brew for Thomas and pulled out a box of cookies too, eating one while she waited for him.

She hadn't really any clue what he needed to tell her, and she was curious, but she was trying to keep from speculating. She didn't really know what their relationship really was, but she did like spending time with him. He seemed kind, and appreciated her for more than her womb.

She chuckled softly. "I have to admit, I was hoping it would be a boy, at least back...there. Here though, it doesn't seem so bad." She was a little worried that the whole thing might remind her too much of her daughter but she tried not to dwell on that.

"You won't go back. That's what we fought for," Thomas said. At least that was as much as Thomas had understood. Truth was, the fight had kept him going. It had given him a purpose to stay in line. "She'll be safe here."

"I'm glad." She really did hope he was right. Things weren't perfect here, and she could understand why some might want to go home, but this was salvation for her. She never wanted to go back to where she'd been. "I just hope she makes it." She admit. There had been so many, back there, that didn't. It was always in the back of her mind.

"Why wouldn't she?" Thomas asked. June was already far over the point where pregnancies were likely to be terminated naturally. At least for all he knew. He might know his way around the female body but that lay beyond his scope of knowledge.

June sighed a bit. "A lot of the babies back in Gilead weren't...okay. Many didn't make it through birth. And even fewer made it through their first week." She'd been lucky once already, she wasn't sure if she would manage it again.

That was... news. "Did you ever have an, uh..." He trailed off, letting her fill out the rest. Dead babies was not the easiest topic to talk about.

"No." June told him simply. "I've never gotten pregnant besides this one and my daughter." She'd seen a few, heard of many. "When we were in the hospital, after I gave birth to her, there was a woman who had lost her baby. She tried to take Hannah, convinced herself that she was her baby."

"What happened then?" Thomas urged her to go on. "Was it already that bad then?"

"My husband and the police stopped her and got Hannah back. I..don't know what happened to the woman." She looked down to her empty mug. "Yes. Not as bad as when I left but everyone knew something was wrong. Hannah was the only one in the nursery the whole time we were there."

"A world without kids...now that's a depressing thought. Ever before your society went mad," Thomas said. Sarah's kids were one of the few things that made his life better.

June nodded, "Hannah wasn't planned but we were so excited. We'd seen all the reports and people were already so scared." She sighed a little bit, wishing she knew more about where her daughter was, wishing she had come with her. "I didn't like it either."

"It's not a problem that we will ever seem to have here. Have you seen the Sullys? I've lived with one for months and I'm not sure I know all the names by now. There seem to be more popping up every other week as well." His tone started to lighten. There evening had been filled with gloom and doom, he could do with something less serious.

June laughed softly. "There does seem to be a bit of a baby boom happening around here." She liked it. Liked knowing that her daughter would have friends her own age. That some day there would be a proper school for her, one that taught her more than obedience and servitude. "I like it. The community here. Everyone seems to take care of each other."
