The new arrival lay back and float upon the water's surface, basking under the warm lamps of the area as his massive tail fin flicked once in a while to keep him steady. With family from a more Northern mer city than Miromara, Rohan had a pinker skin than the other merman on the island with brilliant ginger hair that stood out in a crowd. His scales shimmered under the light and as the water washed over his tail when he moved, which he raised his head to look at when he thought a bug or some such thing had landed on what might have been where a knee or a shin was on a human. He saw nothing and lay back, stretching out, the crimson of his tail fading through an orange color to a brilliant yellow down the back fluke and into the fin's thin membrane.
Rohan doubled back and dove under the water to go find something to listen to, picking up his phone which sat on the bottom of the pool. "What a drag..." he mused to himself as he scrolled through the directory. There was hardly anyone here! This island was so bare and dead compared to the time he came from so filled with life, over flowing with people on land and in the sea. Three merfolk? What a tragedy. Four if they counted his grandmother. Five if they counted him, of course.
Rising to the surface, tail coiled under himself like a seat, Rohan made snoring sounds as he tried to decide what app to open and play a game from. Nothing seemed suitable. He was restless and wanted to talk! After a few more moments passed he threw the phone on the side of the pool, placed his hands on the ledge, and hoist himself up. While he didn't have ample time to breathe on land, he certainly wasn't going to sit under the water by himself all afternoon until one of the other mer came out or back from where ever they'd gone. He dragged himself to a panel on the wal--wait. He looked round and round but couldn't find a panel anywhere.
"What?!" Rohan groaned loudly and dragged himself back in to the pool with a splash. "All that work for nothing...I'm getting them to install that thing. Who would have thought it wasn't even there yet? Annoying..." He shook his head but chuckled at his folly as he swam down for his phone. Swiping this way and that he held it up toward his mouth and spoke into it.
"Heeeeeeeeeeey temple fam! Come to the pool for a party! Meet the new guy! It's so boo~oooring~ without you all here. First one here gets a prize! It's a merman. Spoiler alert." He chuckled at himself for being so absolutely ridiculous and hung up the device.
Now to wait for company.
Ugh.
