Who: Lucy & Rhysand
When: Afternoon
Where: The woods near the Rhysand's townhome
What: Arrival (?). Meeting.
Rating: PG
Closed

The tall High Fae meandered down a path leading through the flower filled gardens around his house out toward the woods. He had his hands in his pockets, a comfortable pace in his step, and his gaze turned up toward the summery sky. Despite the heat he wore his typical black attire, though this was a fitted shirt with silver threads and short sleeves rather than his long jacket. He hummed, taking a glance back at the house before he disappeared into the cooler shade of the forest.

I'm going for a stroll, Rhysand said down the mating bond to Katherine. I'll bring you back a present. He sent the image of a cheeky grin along with his words before he continued to focus on picking his way through the wood. A crackle in the distance, maybe fifty feet North of him, gave him pause.

It was either one of those monsters everyone was so worried about, a spider like that Katherine had faced, or someone else among the trees. He was hopeful it was the latter.

"Hello?" the lord called lazily as he stood in place. "Is someone there?"

"Saving everyone is an impossible task in any real setting." Lucy murmured. "We had a few people from shiny, happy worlds where they played heroes and saved their worlds. They never lasted long on this island." She sometimes thought the came to the island as some sort of sick joke, or to show them what reality was. "Nearly dying, watching others die, that's what's real."

"I feel like I was meant to be more than the grass or the birds." Lucy admitted, trusting that her father would not think it arrogant. "I was born into this incredible family on both sides, only to have it taken from me before I ever got to know what I was capable of. Before I even knew who I was." She knew the ones that raised her had done their best. She needed more, wanted to be a true protector for the island's people. "I've always felt like I was letting my parents' memories down."

She nodded. "I've heard that too, about there being multiple versions of people." She wasn't sure if she believed it. It was hard to accept that the man would allow the kindness of leaving a double of them behind to care for friends. But she kept that to herself. She was curious now about Prythian. "Tell me more about the Prythian. The cauldron - you called it a marker of all things? Was it a tool of gods?" She asked, wondering if it was something they could find or make here to rip the man apart.

Though the man nodded his eyes were sad. Lucy had seen such pain and he realized there was little he could say to take it away. He knew that in his heart, he'd tried this many times before and even he himself felt this crushing reality often. Velaris had been such a beautiful place once before it had been attacked. And he had nine-hundred years of war at his back that made him feel nine-thousand.

"Then be all of the sky," her 'father' said with a small smile and a squeeze of her shoulders. "Be whatever it is you want to be. I'll help you get there; but don't feel like you've let anyone down. I'd say your parents are proud of you. You've come a long way for someone who 'just survives.'"

Rhysand then turned and held out a hand so they could resume their flight while they spoke. "The Cauldron is...an ancient artifact of great, wonderful and terrible, magic. It was used to create life. From the Cauldron everything came, all of the world and all of the creatures upon it. I've seen it. It cannot be destroyed, only kept safe from those who would use it to do harm unto others--when I left Prythian and came here I was in the middle of trying to steal it back from a wicked king." He sighed. "There is Mother. She is our most beloved and invoked deity."

"All of the sky? Including the sun and the moon and the stars?" Lucy shrugged. It was a nice thought, but she wouldn't be the one to brighten anyone's life. Her parents were gone. "I guess I'll never know." Even if she did get to know her parents in this time, she couldn't get back the years she'd spent without them. She'd never know what it would be like to have them watch her grow up.

"It sounds very powerful." Lucy commented. It was different than the creation stories she'd heard from other islanders. She wished she could have known about her past. "You wouldn't use it to harm anyone? Even your enemies?" She asked. A powerful tool meant a powerful weapon. She'd do whatever it took to defend her fellow islanders.

"Maybe the other you defeated the king." Lucy suggested. If there were other selves out there, than it could be possible. She looked at him with curiosity in her eyes. "Was she literally your mother?" She knew there were gods on Katherine's side of the family, why not on his too?

"Including the sun, moon, and stars." Rhysand agreed before they took off. He then sighed about the Cauldron. "I would rather not," he said. "That kind of power is too much for one person, even for me--I'm the most powerful." He grinned as he whispered this before chuckling. "I would use it against the King if I had to, but what I'd rather do it shatter it so it cannot be used again."

"No, my mother was an Illyrian woman. Illyrian being where I inherited my wings from; and you yours." He said with a soft smile. "Mother is a goddess to which we pray. The Priestesses and our temples are primarily dedicated to her."

Lucy had to bite her cheek, holding in an argument that if he was the most powerful, he would not be trapped on the island. "Would you use it against the man if you could?" She asked, finding herself curious. She had long ago made the decision that she would always do what needed to be done.

"Could she fly with her wings?" Lucy asked, wondering if she was the only one to have useless wings. If Rhysand hadn't been letting her fly with him, she would have been jealous. "I've known a few people who prayed." Islanders, people that had been lost despite their prayers. "I think I like the idea of praying to a female."

The most powerful was certainly a degree measured by realm. This realm was not of his own and, sadly, he was not the most powerful among the islanders or that who toyed with them. But, perhaps, he was one of them. Admittedly, Rhysand did not want to have to find out.

"Under normal circumstances...no. But in this place, yes. I would." He'd rip the Man apart.

"Yes, but as I mentioned, women weren't allowed. So...it was a complicated situation. She had obviously received favor from the Lord of the court but it meant nothing. She was still strict. She did not help us as we grew--but in not doing so, she was the greatest help of all." He chuckled. "She didn't show pity or favoritism. We just worked hard."

Lucy gave a nod of approval. This was the only place she'd ever known. From the stories she'd heard about life in other worlds and other realms, she knew it wasn't normal. There had to be a better existence and that was worth using every means at their disposal.

"I was raised in different styles." Lucy commented, thinking back to the people that had stepped in after her parents and so many other children's parents were died or disappeared. "Some people were strict, some hands off and others more nurturing. I don't know which was the greatest help to me. Maybe it was the combination." It took an island to raise a child in her time.

"It takes a village," Rhysand said in response before going silent. He held Lucy tight, surely and safely that she would not fall, as they swooped over the island's city.

"Yes, that's it." Lucy watched the ground below them, in awe of the life and the buildings. It was as if she was seeing a different world. "It's all so beautiful."
