"I will." JR promised, wishing there was something, anything, he could do to make things easier on his father. What could he say? In this sort of situation Tom Sully didn't know how to set out to take the life of another sentient being. Not many people did, and in JR's opinion it was a good thing. It wasn't something done lightly or for frivolous reasons.
His father was one of the best men he'd ever known, and JR had always felt like he let him down precisely because he'd grown up taking a different path. Because he'd followed his uncle's example instead of his father's. It was another punch to the gut seeing the man broken like this. But what else could he say? It wasn't the time or the place to try and tell him how much he was respected by his eldest son.
