Who: Adam and Open
Where: Somewhere in the city
What: Arriving, sans Belle
When: Morning, April 21st
Rating: Disneyriffic
Notes: Adam speaks French, and will do so until he is asked to speak in English. Beware my rusty French GCSE from 1994 and Google Translate skills XD

That tower was incredibly tall, Adam thought to himself. Tall and... made of glass? His shock at finding himself somewhere that was not the grounds of his castle was temporarily put aside as his mind tried to fathom how on earth such a construction could even exist! One could not build with glass, it was too easily broken! And yet...

Turning away from such a fantastical and improbable building, Adam tried to find something familiar, some method of locating the way back to his home. But there was nothing, no matter where he walked. A veritable forest of giant buildings, nothing like anything he had seen in his extensive travels... but of course. He had spent however-long trapped in his castle. Was it possible that engineers had advanced in their knowledge and skills so much in those years? No matter, he was distracting himself from what was truly important. He did not know where he was. He did not know where his Belle was, either. She was at their home in the castle. In the library, to be specific. But since he did not know where the castle was, his Belle was therefore lost to him as well.

"BELLE? Où es-tu? Peux-tu m'entendre? BELLE?"

The low snarl came unbidden as he heard no reply, no matter how many times he called for her in countless different places. What was this place? Was he still cursed?

Of course, now was the right time for new arrivals. She had no doubt that he was behind it. Keep them busy with reunions and new people. Distract them and sooth their grief. Nicely played.

Katherine considered what she should do with the new arrival. Shall he become someone else's problem? Should she use his ignorance to her advantage? Or was he hostile? Every new person could be a spy, whether they knew it or not. It was a possibility. She could feed him lies. Spread as much misinformation as possible and conceal what she actually tried to hide. Whatever she decided to do was a gamble.

She considered it for a moment and then decided that the best cause of action was to act like normal. Get him off the streets, settle him in so that no one else would have to deal with him and she might be able to snatch a glimpse at his mind and see whether he was tainted or not.

With the sceptre swung over her shoulder, she slowly approached him. "Hey!"

Such an odd greeting. He was clearly neither farmer nor horse, so why would she yell "Hay" at him?

"Bonjour, mademoiselle. Voulez-vous me dire où nous sommes, s'il vous plaît?" he asked as she drew nearer. Her clothing was strange, he noted, and he did not know what to make of her sceptre.

He hadn't switched the language. Her French was terrible. It was one of the lessons she had never paid attention to. Her multilingual was... basic. She could grasp a word or two but nothing more and speaking it.... no.

"English?" She could try Icelandic and German afterwards and of that did not help, she would need to call someone else.

"Ah. My apologies. Hello. Will you tell me where we are, please?" he asked again. How strange. Was this city in England? Or possibly the Americas?

Katherine could not help herself. She looked up and around until she spotted two street signs. "On the corner of Warrick Avenue and Goldstein Place." She blinked at him innocently. "There are street signs there." Yes, that man was probably confused and scared. But it was too good an opportunity.

Adam followed her gaze until he spotted the signs, and raised an eyebrow. "Merci," he replied, "that is a very specific answer. Would you be a little more general? Which city is this? I do not think I am in France any more."

She chuckled softly. "From all we know, you are not on earth anymore." She let that sink in. This would be a very long day for her. She had sometimes wondered what it would be like to be recipient of one of these talks. Suddenly having the earth ripped out from underneath her. But then, it couldn't be that different from finding out that your parents weren't your parents. A pen of compassion overcame her and suddenly it was more than pure rational thought that kept her going. Whether sent her by mister psychopath or not, they were still human and they had still the worst day of their lives ahead of them. "Look, I'm sorry. This will all be a lot to take in. But I'll try to help you as much as I can."

Not on Earth? This was nonsense now. The young lady was obviously playing with him, and he had no time for such things.

"Please, do start helping. I must return to my wife, to my home, but I need to know where I am in order to work out how to return."

She chuckled softly. "Well, working on it. Right now, I can only offer you accommodation, food and guidance. I cannot promise that there is a way back to your home. I'm sorry."

He bit back the growl that was threatening.

"Why is there not a way home? I arrived here, did I not? Or is this place one large... what is the word? Un labyrinthe... Maze? Is all of this one large maze, mademoiselle? Although even in a maze, one can retrace their steps and exit."

"Magic brought you here," she stated simply. It was a test to see how much he knew about magic and how much he would readily believe. There were only a few who believed everything at once.

That got him snarling properly. He was still cursed! Was ten years of his life not enough? "Qu'ai-je fait cette fois-ci? J'ai cassé ma malédiction!... Have you been cursed too, or is this your realm?" he asked, gesturing at the sceptre the young lady carried.

Cursed too? Now that sounded interesting. Something she could use maybe. "My realm? No. Someone else has claimed this place and I don't want it anyway. Some might say that ending up here is a curse. Some might consider it a blessing." She shrugged. "That's up to you."

"But you are an enchantress, are you not? Your sceptre or staff, it is not natural... Where is your realm?"

He stepped closer as he spoke, studying her. "What about this place could be considered a blessing? You offered me guidance, so I would ask this of you."

Katherine glanced down at the sceptre as he mentioned it. She could watch the blue light dance for ages. But she blinked herself away from it. He kept rattling on with questions.

"Woah, that's quite a bit to answer. Hold your horses. Enchantress... maybe. I'd call it sorceress. I do not purely stick to enchantments. My realm... well, my families realm is Asgard so let's go with that. The whole blessing thing: a lot of people arrived here shortly before they died. This place lets them escape death and people seem to find that preferable."

Asgard? Truly? Impressive.

"Sorceress, then. What is your name?" he asked. "I can see how that would be a blessing, yes. But not everyone arriving here is about to die. Were you? Do you consider this place to be blessing or curse?"

"Katherine and I was born in this place so it is neither," she stated. She omitted the whole 'I come from the future'-thing for now. It was something that would only complicate the conversation even further.

"Bonjour, Katherine. I am Adam." He left off his titles for now. She was a Sorceress, after all, and was therefore above such things. "And this place is your home. Are we in Asgard? Or one of the other realms? Other than... I think it is Midgard in English?"

"Heil og sæl, Adam," she said with a faint smile. "This is not Asgard, no. It is none of the Nine Realms. No one from the outside has found a connection yet."

He frowned as he worked through her words. "We are not connected to... Earth? When you said that for all we knew, this was not Earth, you were telling me the truth, weren't you?" He had visions of this bizarre city floating through the stars like some huge sailing ship that had slipped its moorings and drifted out into the deep sea.

"I was, yes," she said. "Occasionally, even I do that." She stopped for a moment. "Would you like to go somewhere else? Are you hungry? Thirsty?" The open streets made her uncomfortable. She was vulnerable here. Too many open spaces and places monsters could crawl out of.

He had balled his fist as she admitted the truth, and his fingernails were digging into his palm as he thought about how he was now adrift from everyone and everything he had ever known. At least they were not his claws, else his hand would have been shredded. How was he supposed to get back to his Belle? What was he supposed to do?

He forced his temper down, though it took a moment, and then nodded. "I do not know where there is to go," he replied, his voice still carrying a hint of a growl.

Katherine watched the other man wordlessly. There was a bundle of anger issues right there stored in the mind shelves of a man.

"We've got a bakery or..." She was hesitant before the spoke the next suggestion. "... we could go to my place." Katherine was unsure whether she was comfortable with the idea of having the Frenchman around. But she was uncomfortable with having him around anywhere. At least, she would be paranoid enough to watch him closely. There were too many people who were far too trusting.

Adam watched the Sorceress carefully, all too aware of what had happened the last time he rejected someone of her ilk. "If I were to choose the bakery rather than your... place, would you be offended? I find myself unsure of the protocol for dealing with a Sorceress such as yourself."

"The protocol?" she asked. Her voice bubbled with laughter and mirth. His careful considerations flattered her. In her mind, most people just thought they could decide over her head. "Well, don't try to kill me. I take that very personally." She winked at him. "This way, you strange, strange man." She waved him into the direction of the bakery.

"I have found that most people do tend to take that sort of thing personally, yes," he agreed, utterly confused by her behaviour by now. Winking?

He followed after her, looking around himself all the while.

He eyed Katherine warily as she asked about him. Should she not already know? The Enchantress had known all about him before she had ever met him, after all. Should he mention Belle? He would not have her harmed or cursed also. He had already said he was married, but beyond that, nothing.

"We have covered that I am called Adam, and that I am French, oui? I am a married man. I enjoy travelling. I have travelled throughout Europe. I think Paris is wonderful. This is... much further than I have ever travelled before."

She smiled faintly at him. Such a normal life he had which had suddenly been shaken by the impossible. "When were you born?" She was more interested in his current year but decided the roundabout way was the easier way to inquire it.

"I was born in 1750," he replied, then decided it was Katherine's turn. "What of you, lady Sorceress? Tell me about yourself. What do you enjoy? What is Asgard like?"

1750. That was certainly exotic. Questions and curiosity flooded her mind. But she would not deny him his own curiosity. "What I enjoy? That is a splendid question. I enjoy dancing and music. I can play the piano and the guitar. Talking about life and attitudes is something I can greatly enjoy if it is an open minded person I meet. I enjoy the company of my loved ones and my wolves. They are little rascals." She sighed. "Asgard, it's... magnificent. Every time I have been there, I enjoyed it. It is full of life while this place here, it feels dead."
