Who: Bucky
Where: Not far from the Cottage.
What: Not being a stalker
When: After work
Rating: TBD
Open: Yup (Though preferably Steve or Peggy)
Status: on going

It had been weeks since he'd been to the cottage. Or, really, inside. He walked by it every day. Some days he paused. Just to see if he could catch a glimpse of either Peggy, or Steve. Just a flash of something to get him through. More often than not he went home with a heavy heart.

So Bucky, lacking so much shame at this point, climbed a tree, where he could spy the backyard and a bit of the front porch at the same time. Mouse wasn't bringing the kids today, so he had no place to be. There was no harm in sitting and waiting, if there was no one to meet.

In the weeks he had been away he'd all but given up smoking all together. Only catching a few puffs off of one cigarette whenever the craving hit him hard. And then he limited it to no more than half of the cigarette. It had been the better part of a month since he came back and he still had more than half the pack from Brooklyn.

The downside was that he was combating some weight gain by taking on more at the farm, his nails were chewed, though he did take care to smooth them out whenever Luke was brought by, and he wasn't sleeping. Though Bucky wasn't entirely sure if that was because cutting out the nicotine or simply because he was more than a little home sick.

That small glimpse would get him through. No matter how short it was. He knew it would get him through.

The cottage was far too quiet for her liking over the past few weeks. It had felt like forever since Bucky had left and everything felt weird and wrong. Even the children had picked up on the odd atmosphere of tension and sad silences between them all. Peggy had never felt so adrift from the people who loved her; even Steve, whom she thought she could rely on for strength, had an air about him that made her feel he was acting his smiles just like he was back on that stage in pantyhose. No, the cottage was too quiet and too devoid of life since he left. It was never what she wanted to happen.

Peggy had coped by pouring her energy into the house, the garden, teaching Stevie and Mouse and looking after her five month old son as best she could by distracting them with learning materials. When they weren't around her, she felt lost in who she was. Peg had taken to the firing range and blasted more than a few choice holes into some targets with her Luger. She had even retrieved her old SSR uniform, which of course no longer fitted her in the slightest.

Today she was sat at her kitchen table with a cold half cup of tea and a worn tin of her family photographs. She had letters from her long-dead brother, pictures of her mother, father and grandmother. Relics of her past littered the table and Peggy wished that she could go sink into that world for an hour or two. She missed Michael more than air, he'd know exactly what to do to get her out of her depression.

Bucky didn't know how long he sat in the tree. Didn't know how long he longingly glanced from the front, to the back. He did know his legs were growing a little numb, and his back was starting to ache. With a heavy hearted sigh, he climbed out of the tree.

He was almost half way down when he spotted Peggy through the window. It froze him in that awkward spot. He stayed there for a few minutes. Long enough for the smaller branch to strain a little too long under his weight. And with a snap, "Oh shit!" a curse, and a thud he fell.

He lay prone, mentally checking himself for injuries. He groaned softly. "Well, Barnes, not the smartest thing you've ever done." Bucky complained once he figured nothing was seriously hurt. Nothing but his pride.

In her own little world of her tatty photographs, Peggy didn't even notice anyone was watching her until she heard a creak and a snap from outside the window. Her head turned sharply and her eyes widened as she saw the figure of a man fall from her garden tree onto the ground below. Someone had been spying on her and she'd been completely oblivious. Cursing herself, she immediately reached to the top of the kitchen cabinet and grabbed her gun.

Dashing outside, she held the barrell away from her to the floor and turned to look at who had been spying on her. Her eyes widened as she recognised the prone lump. "Bucky? What on earth are you doing, I could have shot you point blank!" she said, putting the safety on the gun. "Did you break anything other than the tree?"

God how he'd missed that face. And there she was like an angel standing over him. An angel with a gun, and he was pretty damn sure no one could be as sexy threatening him with a loaded weapon. "It would have been worth it. Totally worth it." It was a good angle.

Bucky rubbed the back of his head. "No, just bruised pride, and maybe a little sense knocked into me." It ached, the bare thud in his chest ached, as he eased up on his elbows. If it had been before... Before everything so horrible had fucked up his life, he would have yanked her down on him, and asked if he could pull his gun on her. Instead, he gave her a stupid grin. A stupid 'would worship the ground she walked on' grin.

His eyes seemed to light up and roam all over her as she stood above him with her gun pointed away from them both and how she could seriously just forget for a moment all that had happened in the past few weeks and just give him a kiss. Peggy told herself to get a grip and she simply maintained her intimidating position, as she was accustomed to it.

He had the audacity to sit on the ground, looking ruffled and messy and stained, scraped skin and actually grin at her. Peggy raised her eyebrow and tried not to laugh at how young and like Stevie he looked. Her little boy would always give her a goofy grin whenever he fell from the tree and brushed it off without a single cry.

"You're covered in filth, Barnes," she said, shaking her head. "And why were you playing Peeping Tom through the window?"

If only she knew. If only she knew what the intimidating position was doing to him right then... She'd probably kick him in the balls. And that made his grin grow wider. A little more perverse. And he knew that she had no idea how absolutely delicious she was right then.

"I did just..." Bucky glanced at his phone, it had been hours ago now. "Well, I stopped work a while a go but..." He glanced up at the tree. If only he'd moved down an inch or so, he'd been able to get an eyeful for a little longer. Maybe.

Impishly he curled his arms under his head, mostly to keep from reaching up and grabbing her. "I've missed your gorgeous face." Though his eyes did start at her face, they did move down, with no small amount of heat in them.

Peggy wasn't sure how to feel about the way he was looking at her. Partly it intrigued her and made her remember the times he had made her feel like a goddess but there was a lingering, niggling spark at the back of her head that told her it felt wrong.

"So you make a habit of climbing the tree like a monkey, and do what, exactly? Set up camp for the night?" she said with a little bit of lightness in her voice as she was teasing him. Peg knew exactly what he was doing up the damn tree but he was being such a boy about it.

That heated gaze was hard to miss though and she had dual urges to cover up and flaunt it. "Maybe you should come inside for a cup of tea. You must have a bloody concussion..." she said, shaking her head and swaying her hips as she walked into the house again.

Bucky was not going to let up. The last time they'd spoken she'd had the look on her face like she'd be sick. And that wasn't what he saw to day. It gave him a little bit of hope that not all was lost.

"If it means catching a few glances of you, hell yes." It hadn't been what he'd really planned. He would have sat up there until his heart couldn't take it anymore. In fact he'd been on his way down. But he felt... better than he had in weeks, so there was no point in bringing that part up.

He groaned loud enough for her to hear as she walked away. "If it means seeing double of that walk, and that behind... I say bring on a concussion." He almost let her get out of sight before he sprang up and followed her in.

What she wouldn't have given for Steve to walk in right now and give her some stability. Her head was swimming with affection and a little lust for Bucky but somehow it didn't seem right to be feeling that without validation from Steve that it was okay. She knew he'd say to go with her heart but what if he felt differently? She did not like the unknown.

"James Buchanan Barnes, you keep those eyes off my backside," she warned. "And don't sit on the couch, Steve just cleaned it out yesterday and you're covered in moss and bits of tree. Goodness, you are a mess..." she said, going straight for the kettle. Tea was always the answer to calming her racing mind.

He hoped if Steve was seeing what he hoped he saw, he'd be happy. Bucky knew moving out hadn't been something Steve had wanted. But he'd been sure that it was something the pair of them needed. Needed to be away from him. Needed to get their legs under them for any hope of ever bringing their family back together.

"Hey, I can't help that it's the most perfect derriere I'd ever lain eyes on. And those hips..." He groaned exaggeratedly as he leaned his shoulder, which he knew was mostly clean, against the door jam. "I wont sit. I promise." He gave her a long smile. How he'd missed those beautiful brown eyes. He'd forgotten how dark and sultry they truly were.

Peggy didn't want to think about the past anymore. She wanted instead to focus on healing and feeling better about who she was as a person outside of their family unit. She'd honed her skills at the range, had written some of her memoirs too and was teaching Stevie things for school. It had taken her mind off the emptiness of the house and instead put the focus on healing them.

"We both know Steve's is nicer, but thank you." She replied, filling the kettle at the sink. "I said you can't sit on the couch, you can sit up the table if you want..." she said. "Did you hurt yourself falling out of that old tree?"

"I don't know if nicer is the word I'd use. Yours is definitely much more lush. Drives a man insane just thinking about the things I'm thinking about." He winked at her. He went to the sink, so very close to her, nudging that clean shoulder against her lightly. "I'll sit after I've washed my hands."

Leaning back Bucky checked himself over visually, no holes in the clothes that hadn't already been there, from rough wear. "I don't think so, but if I did I probably wont notice until I shower." And even then he wasn't sure what he could contribute to falling out of the tree and to working himself stiff.

"Lush?" she said, turning and arching her delicate brow at him. "Lush, is that another word for bigger, perhaps?" Peggy teased, forgetting her anger and instead falling completely into their old teasing routine. It had gotten easier to try and forget what he did but there was still a lingering pain at the back of her head she was trying to push down.

Kettle on the stove, Peggy gathered up her old family photos and sealed them all inside the tin. "Well that's good, I think we're out of linament anyway so I couldn't do much to patch you up."

"Oh no. It's..." Bucky pursed his lips, how would he dig himself out of that hole. Because it was rounder than Steve's in the best way possible. "Softer, not that you can't feel the muscle in there if you grab ahold." Indicating that he did, indeed, want to grab ahold. He ran his hands under the water once the faucet was free. "Womanly. And Sweetheart, you are all woman." There was no small amount of lust in his tone, as his eyes wandered.

"It ain't nothing a few nice rubs wouldn't cure anyway." Oh, if that wasn't dirty. He'd missed her so much.

It was starting to sound forced now, that he was trying to get back to their flirting. She wasn't completely comfortable with it still and turned to get the tea prepared. "I should hope so..." she said quietly, taking down the tin of shortbread cookies too. In her head, she couldn't make sense of why he was going all out with the flirting, or maybe this counted as a blatant come on.

"I'm not rubbing you, Bucky." She said quite plainly though she was jokier. "You'll just have to go grab your shower and get some sleep. I should have you clean up the mess you made in the poor tree..."

All flirting, all jokes aside. Bucky didn't want to wear out his welcome. Even if it had even been that, instead of a sense of obligation since he'd fallen out of the tree. Shaking off the water from his hands, he combed the moisture through his hair. "I'll see to it first thing in the morning Peggy. Promise."

But that didn't stop him from coming close again, but this time he just leaned in and kissed her cheek. "I think your medicine sounds like a way to go, so I'll take a raincheck on that tea. It was really good seeing you." The warmth in his tone, and the barely checked love in his eyes, belayed the truth of his words.

"You bloody won't take 'a raincheck on that tea', Barnes," she said vociferously, trying not to glare wildly at him. "You just fell out of a damn tree while trying to be a peeping Tom on your own wife and I'm not letting you go that easy." Peggy grabbed his arm without preamble and pushed him into an open kitchen chair. "You're going to follow my command for once, Sergeant, I am still your superior officer."

Satisfied that he wasn't about to run out on her yet again, she pushed the tin of cookies towards him. "Eat that for now, I'm making dinner and you're going to stay to eat that too. Is that understood?"

Bucky didn't fight her when she grabbed his arm and pushed him down into the kitchen chair. He did his best to hide what an absolute turn on it was. Or maybe just feeling her touch. He hadn't felt it since the night he decided he was going to spend the month in Brooklyn. "Yes ma'am." He even saluted her, without sass.

"As long as I ain't wearing out my welcome." If he felt like he was. If he felt that wear... He was sure he could come up with some reason he had to get back.

"I would tell you if you were wearing out your welcome, don't worry about that, sweetheart," she replied as the kettle blew its whistle aloud. Peggy made the tea methodically, making sure she had everything just right, down to the tin mugs and the last drop of milk. She had missed him but was very wary of just jumping back into their previous life. She wasn't as trusting, she wasn't as confident, she wasn't comfortable. "Drink." She said, putting the tea on the table.

Satisfied that he wasn't moving, she began pulling out the things she'd need for dinner. "Tonight is chicken parmesan, baked ziti, roasted vegetables and homemade marinara with some garlic bread and I made a chocolate cake for dessert."

Bucky did as he was told. And even after that first sip, oh how it felt like home, he held the mug in between his fingers, not far from his nose. Just taking in the comforting scent. It was so much better than the shit coffee he'd been forcing down his throat for the past sixty days.

"You sure there's enough?" Considering Steve and Stevie, both whom had appetites that could take down a herd of Buffalo, and probably be hungry an hour later. "I don't want to put anyone out." She couldn't still be making enough for him too. Not when she didn't have to.

Sipping her tea as she went to the refrigerator, Peggy pulled out pack after pack of chicken. "I bought five pounds of chicken breasts, that's about 24 normal person portions so I figure it must make at least 8 of ours, maybe 10 with extra pasta. I'm sure we'll be fine..." It did take an army to feed her family, dinner was always a big affair when you had to cook for some huge appetites. Luckily she never had much of one herself and so there was half her plate extra too.

"You can help me, actually. I need all these breasts pounded flat and crumbed ready to get the toppings and baked."

Bucky felt like a cat, almost, ready to bolt at the word boo. The moment their conversation turned sour. But he kept himself relaxed. Kept sipping the tea. It wasn't that he didn't trust Peggy, he did. But he wasn't sure he trusted himself not to fuck up the progress. "Okay." There was no reason to put stipulations on. He would simply eat less if needed.

His eyebrows jumped up when she asked for him to help. "Sure. Uh, how?" He hadn't done anything as fancy as Chicken Parmesan before.

Peggy squeezed his shoulder as she moved past him to get more of the things she needed from the cupboard. She wasn't ready to be completely flirty and slip back into her old shoes, so to speak, but there was a need in her to show some affection to him. He just had to understand that she needed more time to accommodate again

"I'll show you," she said, tearing off pieces of plastic wrap. "You put a piece of the plastic down, then take the chicken and put another piece of plastic on top. Then you take a rolling pin or a meat cleaver and beat the breasts until they are an even thickness. Think you can do all 20 breasts?"

That touch did it, it felt like the kind of touch you gave that cousin you barely tolerated. It made him feel stupider than hell that he'd even come. She didn't miss him. Or maybe not the way he missed her anyway. His heart sank. Diner. He'd just have to get through diner. Bucky swallowed the lump in his throat with an extra healthy gulp of tea, as he watched her.

Clearing his throat, he smiled at her. "Yeah, looks easy enough." He was pretty sure he could squish some chicken without screwing it up too much. Even if there wasn't much that he could do without screwing it up, lately.

It was unmistakable, the sudden change in his demeanor. What had she done wrong this time? Peggy was just trying to get back some sense of normalcy and build up a stable, loving relationship at the rate she was comfortable. Maybe it wasn't enough for him already, though she wasn't nearly there enough to slip back into their lives.

"Well, I'll just... do the flour, egg and breadcrumb then..." she said, a little distant and confused. She was so used to reading situations well but Peggy could not get a handle on her husband anymore. What did he want from her?

Bucky made it through at least half of the chicken breasts. Worrying at his lower lip nearly the whole time. He didn't want to skimp out, when he'd said he'd do something for her. But he was more than a little sure, coming inside had been a mistake. Either she didn't feel the way she had for him anymore, and really he didn't blame her he was surprised Steve still wanted him around, or she just wasn't ready to see him again.

"Peggy, how mad would you get if I took a raincheck on diner? I'm not feeling so hot." He continued to pound out the chicken. Not daring to look up at her, almost as if he were studying to be sure the chicken was exactly the same thickness, like that was life or death.

God, she really had no idea what was going on. She had been happily preparing all the dishes for her breading station when he decided to make her stumble and confound her intellect by announcing that he didn't want to stay. Not that she believed his excuse for a second but if he didn't want to say, that was his prerogative.

"I... I wouldn't be angry, Buck, just disappointed. The kids have missed you being around and so have me and Steve. I wouldn't have asked if I didn't want you here," she reassured him softly. "If you're really not feeling well, I understand but if it's just... you don't have to leave. We all want you here."

"You've missed me?" Bucky was so shocked he didn't think to hide his surprise, when he jerked his head up to look at her. He knew the kids missed him, they showed him just how much whenever Mouse brought them over to the apartment. Steve had contacted him the day he left.

But he dropped his gaze back down at the chicken. "We both know that you weren't happy with me here Peggy." He remembered her flinch the day before he left for Brooklyn. He moved on to another pair of chicken breasts. Carefully pounding them out as he had those that had come before.

Peggy didn't understand why he was so shocked that she had missed him. Maybe it was because she was willingly admitting to missing him instead of keeping her true feelings buried and safe, because she knew he was used to her doing that. "Yes, Bucky, I have missed you. Is that such a hard thing to believe, that I missed the man I love, the man I married? Jesus, Bucky, the house is so depressing without you here. I can't sleep right, neither can Steve, he hasn't touched me in weeks either, the kids feel ten times harder to calm down and Mouse won't stop asking where you are." She ranted.

She really had had enough of the pity party both of them were throwing, walking on eggshells and pretending that they were giving the other space. It hadn't worked this whole time so maybe what she needed to get over the bump in their road was to claim back her goddamn husband. She just stared at him for a second before she made a decision that would either make everything much better or ruin it forever.

Wiping her hands off, Peggy took a confident stride around towards him, putting both her palms on his chest, she pushed him backwards until he stumbled into the counter before kissing him with such fervour that their lips would be bruised and swollen for hours.

Bucky had opened his mouth to say something, but closed his mouth tight. He didn't want to make things worse. He didn't want her to clam up when she was finally talking about something. He simply shook his head. "I didn't know." Or he hadn't known she'd been miserable without him there. He'd been sure that she was miserable with him there.

But again, she shocked him. He hadn't been sure what she was about, when she wiped her hands off. And he'd only had time enough to set down the rolling pen before she shoved him back. He was almost sure she was going to hit him...

But she didn't. She kissed him, it surprised him so much that he didn't react for a few seconds. Once the shock wore off, he wrapped his arms around her waist and dragged her to him, kissing her back as if he could never get enough.

Peggy didn't let up as he pulled her closer and ruffled her fingers through his hair, tugging softly at the dark locks. It felt like home, like fire and passion and belonging when she kissed him. It was different to Steve, who had always felt safe and secure with that deep set of respect behind it. The two together was like having everything she had ever wanted in a single man because as it turned out, Peggy was entirely unsatisfied without one or the other.

She kissed him and kissed him, being brazen and wild like she hadn't in what felt like months. Instead of letting her pain and insecurities take over her life, she smashed them into pieces. Her hands pulled the shirt from his pants so she could scrape his skin with her nails and mark him again to erase what had happened.

He damn near sagged against her when she ran her fingers through his hair. His human contact, besides with the kids, had been minimal at best. He wanted to cry. He wanted to whimper. He wanted to lift her off of her feet and carry her to the table and just... But he didn't. He quivered under her touch.

Bucky sucked in his stomach when she scraped over his skin with her fingernails, not wanting her to feel the softness there that had found place with his attempt to quit smoking. And a whimper did actually leave his throat. Not because she'd hurt him, never that. But his resolve not to push, not to lead this to anything more than a kiss, was breaking like so much fragile glass. His fingers twitched against her back, with want to move farther than the small of her back.

Peggy was a little put off that he didn't react as strongly as she had imagined him too, but she did push down the nasty voices in her ear and kept kissing him. She wanted him to want her the same way he'd been flirting with her before it got weird again. Surely he hadn't gone off her? No, she hadn't imagined his glances.

Eventually though, she had to let him up for air and panted a little herself as she pulled her lips away from his. "See normally you'd have my top down a little by now and most likely trying to persuade me to let you screw me on the hard kitchen table instead of somewhere softer but I seem to still be clothed and comfortable. Either you've gone off me, which by all accounts seems wrong considering your looks earlier, or you're holding back because you're not sure about what this means..." she rambled.

Peggy grabbed his shirt and looked him in the eyes. "This means that I love you. It means that I missed you being in my life, that without you, I felt hollow. It also means that you are ours, do you understand? I cannot go through that pain again, James. Mentally I understood what happened but I cannot allow that pain in my life again. So, this is a chance at a fresh start. So now, please do not change how you treated me before all this and fuck me on the kitchen table."

She had most definitely not imagined his glances. The tautness of his pants were evidence of that. When she pulled back, he was panting like a man that had run a mile. "You're kinda sending me mixed signals, beautiful. I didn't want to push you farther than you were ready to go. But that didn't mean it didn't cross my mind." As if her Rambling and demands were invitation. More than the 'fuck me on the table' was. His hands began to roam. Fingers tugging up her shirt. A soft hiss sucking between his teeth as his fingertips found skin.

"I'm always yours. Always his. My life is nothing without you. Either of you." The kids loved him, yes, but they would live just fine if he vanished tomorrow. But he wouldn't have the kids without her and Steve. Without her and Steve... He didn't know where he'd be. "If I ever start acting like that again. You have full permission to tie me down." A slow almost dirty smile turned up his lips. And without more preamble, he hauled her shirt up and off. "You really want me to fuck you on the table?"

Peggy was well aware that she had changed her tactics suddenly but she had become so sick of their relationship being broken that she decided the only way to move forward was to sweep the broken pieces away and dive back in again. Here she was, putting it all out there one last time; it would be his only second chance with her heart. "I just want... to forget about it. To move on, to bring you back here and really be my husband."

If she was worried he'd turn her invitation down, her fears were lessened as her blouse hit the floor. "Oh we're going to get our own back on you, Bucky, but this time, you might actually enjoy it in the end..." she warned with a darkly flirtatious twinkle in her eye. "And why on earth would I ask you to do something and then you don't do it? Really, Buck, I'm disappointed that you don't have me crying out your name yet. Have you lost your touch?"

Bucky was sure he'd never forget the experience, the whole of it, from the start in the gym, to the end, just then, for as long as he lived. But he'd definitely learned from it. The tips of his fingers moved over her stomach, up along the underside of her bra. "I'll have to go get my stuff. And the cat." His tone was pretty distracted, as he was paying more attention to the paths his fingers were taking rather than the words he was saying.

But the promise in her words, had his grin growing a little more than it had been. "Good." He wanted to say that there had been nothing enjoyable about what had happened. And there hand't. He'd been miserable. Living a sad excuse for a life. "Well. The chicken. And it's been a few months, so I've got to test and make sure I haven't lost my touch." One hand slid around her ribcage and without really losing contact with her skin, he unsnapped her bra. "But if you'd rather I took my time later... I can."

Peggy shivered a little at his touch, her skin betraying her as to how long it had been since anyone touched her like that. It had been so damn long since she was even looked at with heat and fire and kissed with passion. She missed the ease she could attract them with and it was about time that changed. "There's time for that later." She muttered in reply, tugging his own shirt from his pants the whole way around his waist.

"It's a big table..." she waved off her hand, "Taking time is for later, unless you'd rather wait until Steve is here and the kids are in bed and we've got your things back here. Might be another... five or six hours..." she said, glancing at the clock. "Or you can make me come in the next ten minutes and sit at the kitchen table all night thinking about what we did on it."

Bucky pressed into her, so she could feel just how bad off he was. "I don't think I can wait that long. I think I'd better make you come. Wouldn't want to leave you neglected all through supper." His fingers tickled along the backs of her arms as he dragged down the straps of her bra.

He leaned back just a little, enough to let the article drop to the floor. Her breasts more glorious than he remembered, he was sure. "I had almost forgot how beautiful you were. My imagination wasn't doing any justice." And he'd felt far to guilty to look at the naughty pictures he'd stored away on his phone.

Leaning in, he captured her lips with his own. His kiss a little more gentle than hers had been, as one hand came up to cradle the healthy weight of her bosom in it. The other dropped to the fasteners of her pants.
