Marian knew what she was doing was stupid, and dangerous. She knew if any of the creatures of the forest spooked the stallion beneath her, and he tossed her, that she was as good as dead. Even if she was armed to the teeth. She knew it was a stupid, stupid risk. But she'd felt so trapped. So caged, like one of Vasey's birds, that when she'd seen that her beautiful friesian, a horse Guy had given her in attempt to woo her, was just as restless as she was, she didn't second guess the notion. She had sent Hansel a note, telling him that Knight, the name she'd given the horse, had needed to be ridden, that she was going to do so before it got too dark. What she didn't tell him, was that she was going to go as far as she dare, so close to dark. She would go as far as his restless hooves would take him. Marian hadn't even bothered to saddle him. She had simply slipped his bit free bridle on, and he had let her mount his back. She had not gone bareback since she'd been a girl. She had forgot just how much pain it put in her backside. But it was worth it. Worth the feel of the wind whipping her hair behind her, which had reached a length, that no one that did not know first hand would have ever been able to guess that it had been blunt cut as a punishment. It nearly kissed her waist. Longer than it had ever been. She knew it would be a pure nuisance to brush out. But it was worth it. Knight did not slow, not until he reached the meadow. Where his nostrils flared, and his sides heaved. He didn't entirely stop moving, but he only did so at a gentle clop of his hooves. Drawing them farther from the forest's edge. |
