It started out as a run. She needed to do something. Everything seemed to be falling apart around her and she didn't know what to do about it. There wasn't really anything she could do. Her parents were fighting and she wasn't sure why. The guy that she wanted to be with wanted nothing to do with her, supposedly for her own good. And her brother was angry at her and not talking to her. She wanted one time of getting drunk to forget everything for a little while and she couldn't even do that without asking her parents' permission first. It was too much. She needed out of the house. She started at a leisurely jog. She didn't care that it was already dark out, she just wanted to run. Burn off some energy. As she went along, though, she started getting faster and faster. The more she thought about everything going on around her, everything she had absolutely no control over, the angrier she got and the faster she ran. She wasn't really paying attention to where she was running other than to avoid obstacles. She just ran and after a while, tears started rolling down her cheeks. She wasn't sure exactly where she was when she stopped, and she wasn't sure why. She certainly wasn't tired. She could run like that for hours without breaking a sweat. But she did come to a stop in the middle of the city. The buildings looked pretty abandoned and the tears were still rolling. Finally she just screamed. She let out everything she'd been holding in. She stopped caring about being their good little girl, their precious princess, and just let everything out. Finally, she collapsed to her knees and put her face in her hands and just kept crying, right there in the middle of the street. She didn't care, she just needed to let it all out. |
