After doing some studying on the history between my time and now, I'm sad to see that humanity has learned so little.

I'd always thought by the dawn of the 21st century, we'd be done with war and using our scientific expertise for the betterment of humanity. Instead, we're still using it to find better ways to kill each other.

Terribly disappointing.

The existence of an evolutionary fight or flight reflex does not preclude us using our intelligence to avoid a state of war. Yes, of course, if we are individually threatened, humans will fight back, and that's to be expected.

But war? That is a choice we make and something that can be overridden if we aim high enough.

It is not an education level issue, but the fact that you have a pessimistic view of humanity. I do not.

You really ought to stop equating your personal sense of morality with intelligence. It’s a distinctly unacademic habit.

The fight or flight reflex actually has everything to do with humanity’s tendency towards warlike behavior. War is a choice based on the activation of the threat response which occurs upon detecting a concentration of harmful predators. Sigmund Freud did a magnificent job explaining the subject in layman's terms in Reflections upon War and Death.

You should consider reviewing it.
