[an ic conversation of things being discussed ooc here.]

I think that Steve is on the right path with preparing for the worst while expecting the best. It is my hope to try and coordinate efforts

That being said, When things turned sour the last few times, we were sort of scrambling to support those people who were trapped in the maze, or people who were fighting the villains that leaked their way into our peaceful place.

I’m going to put together emergency bags for each apartment… maybe two per apartment for now? It’s going to ideally have self-filtering water bottles, assorted band aids and maybe neosporin (honestly, I’m deferring to Sam here, and this is in NO WAY meant to be a replacement for seeking medical help), granola bars or maybe other quick food sources.

Any suggestions about what can go in these bags is welcome, those are just my first thoughts.

In addition to the ones being given to each apartment, I was thinking that we should keep extras in various safe spots around town-- main thoughts being the SI building and the Youth Center. Is there any other resident controlled buildings that might be a good safe spot should that be an issue?

Our apartment already has a supply or emergency packs. Five made sure of it some time ago.

Alright, Fantastic.

Can I ask what's in them?

As a not, some stuff might be a repeat of what I listed here, but some of that was specific to the situation of having electricity and running water. This is more "worst case scenario" based.

Kits I've created for my family and me include but aren't limited to the following:

  • Food and Cooking

    • Several gallons of water for each person (enough to last several weeks and includes both consumption and regulated bathing -- I've been here a year, and things don't seem to last longer than few weeks)
    • Water bottles and bottles of water (for carrying purposes and refill-ability, though gallon jugs are also both but not everyone wants to carry jugs around constantly)
    • Water purification tablets
    • Portable water purifying systems
    • Enough dried food and canned food to last each person several weeks (some examples I have are peanut butter, dried fruit, canned juices, nuts, beef jerky, granola bars, energy bars, variety of canned foods like the spaghetti and meatballs in a can)
    • Manual can opener
    • Portable pots and pans
    • Reusable plates and eating utensils
    • Dual burner cooking stove with fuel (such as propane)

  • Gear and Tools

    • Flashlights and camping lanterns (a head lamp is useful in these situations)
    • Batteries, rechargeable batteries
    • Solar chargers (I found chargers that recharge with solar energy)
    • Candles
    • Matches, water-proof matches, a fire-starting kit that includes flint and a striker
    • Flares and glow sticks
    • Blankets and sleeping bags
    • Tents
    • Walkie talkies
    • Hand crank radios (though I don't know that anyone uses the radio here for emergency broadcasts)
    • Whistles
    • Masks (the kind for dust and ash and debris, N95 is preferable)
    • Multi-Tool
    • Duct tape
    • Rope or paracord
    • Plastic sheeting
    • Garbage bags and ties
    • Something called a Luggable Loo with biodegradable bags and biodegradable cat litter (yes it is what it sounds like)
    • Weapons (such as a crossbow, gun, knife -- rifleman's hawk is good and versatile)
    • Sewing kits
    • First aid kits (I want to say this is likely self-explanatory and may vary depending on your personal needs and level of comfort but mine include things like bandages of varying sizes, needle and thread, alcohol wipes, rolls of gauze of varying sizes, antibiotic ointment, a few pairs of gloves, tweezers, forceps, scissors, antibacterial wipes)

  • Personal Items

    • Toiletries (such as toothbrush, hairbrush, moist towelettes, toilet paper, hand sanitizer, soap, feminine hygiene products, hand towels)
    • Several changes of clothes (including socks and underwear)
    • Jackets
    • Rain ponchos
    • Activities (coloring books, reading books, board games, playing cards, as examples)
    • Work gloves
    • Extra pair of shoes
    • Medication (including ibuprofen, acetaminophen, antihistamines, antacids, anti-nausea pills)
    • Sunglasses
    • Hats

This doesn't include water/weather resistant bags for fast travel if needed, though if we're stuck on an island there's a greater chance of sustained, permanent shelter. And, of course, I try to cater to each person’s individual dietary restrictions and medical concerns. (For instance, I need a lot more calories than the average person. My food supplies are made with that in mind.)

Wow. That is incredibly well thought out. I had forgotten about this list you'd made before, I'm sorry.

I think that we should keep the apartment go bags very light, but that we should keep larger emergency stores in places that we can get to-- Steve had a great idea of keeping a shelter that is magic proofed in the park. I was thinking keeping things in other dedicated safe spots, like the apartment building, SI, and the Youth Center as well.

I've had some time to think coupled with a father who liked to be over-prepared. And I think most of us would likely prefer to forget the beginning of the year when all of that was necessary. I know I would. But I can't stop So I imagine others would, too.

Sounds like you two have a plan in the making. Good luck to you both.

It's the beginning of the year that warrants those plans. You did a great job then, and I know we could use that help again, if you're willing.

Thats a lie, the bright purple bag that says "Klaus' emergency bag" only has fruit snacks, a juice box (that someone had the audacity to drink already), and a handmade coloring book of evacuation routes.

You have an extra bag, just for you. Would you have preferred a different color? And there are more juice boxes in the pantry if your supply bag is mysteriously missing a full one.

Filtered water is great. A magically refilling supply would be even better. I think I know a spell that could help with that.

How possible would it be to hide something in plain sight?

We were discussing hiding some of these emergency bags in the park.

Invisibility spells are pretty easy. The real question is how we set it up so that the people we want to find them, can, since they'd be invisible to them, too, unless the spell was lifted.

We'd need a system for people to know exactly where they were and a way to lift the spell as soon as they were picked up by one of our people.

You should add some kind of smaller weapon - a knife or a pair of scissors. We can't guarantee we'll be armed wherever it decides to throw us.

Just get a standard first aid kit into each one should be fine. Back home mine also had a sewing kit, cash, some chocolate (trail mix is good too), a tool for breaking car windows, a can opener, utensils for cooking and eating, and a collapsible water bottle with purification tablets. Here I put in a spare leash as well. Prescription medications are important, but that will be something for people to handle on their own. Phone charger's probably a good idea too, and a power bank.

Thanks, Pepper. This is a great idea. Sam's definitely on to something with the phone chargers.

I'm wondering if we can keep some in a more public location but out of sight, like the park. Maybe that's something one of those with magic can help with?

Don't let the word out that the Tech CEO didn't even think about cell phones.

My concern would be people or animals messing with them, but if we could put them in a sort of... shed or something and then make that invisible that would work.
