There is a difference.

Do you live with your parents at home, or by yourself?

We live together.

And you help pay the bills? Cook dinner? Fix the dishwasher when it breaks?

I DO help cook dinner! My Mimi loves when I help.

I'm sure she does. It's still not the same as taking care of yourself.

you are literally not even old enough to petition for your own legal rights.

Are you getting fed? You have what you need?

Why would I do that?

Yeah Frigga and Steve take care of it.

I mean, I don't know. But like... you couldn't.

That's good. Don't go out by yourself or anything. I don't know. Just be careful, okay?

I mostly meant just like... out of the apartment building?

and don't be afraid to call an adult if you need help.

That’s not exactly new. If it makes you feel better, all the kids here have at least one guardian. The ones who don’t have anyone from home to take care of them are generally on one floor with multiple chaperones to make sure they’re okay.

Is it messed up? Yeah. But there’s not a lot we can do about it.

As long as someone is looking after them I guess.

I just have seen some things that like to prey on the ... innocence? I guess... of children who aren't naturally skeptical.

I was a kid when I first came here, I guess I still count as one now, and it's not so bad. They take do a good job looking after us and making sure we're taken care of.

It just doesn't seem good to put kids here, there is a lot of weird things, yeah?

Could just be me.

Some of us, like me, are used to weird things.

I'm used to weird, but at least it waited until I was 17 to come bother me.

I suppose it doesn't seem as strange to me. At home I worked at a school where a lot of the students didn't have welcoming families to go back to.

I know I am lucky to have the family I do... but still. Seems wrong to take kids from their families if they don't want to be.

Some of them definitely have families at home. There's been a few from the same world as me that don't, but even they have close friends or people they count as family. In some ways they're actually more adaptable than the adults though.

Yeah, it's weird. But the kids get looked after, so it's not wholly awful.

If you need help, uh, let me know? I'm not... I've never raised a kid or anything, but some of them are pretty okay.
