So this whole Paris theme.. I like it. But I'm not in love with it. Sure, I've been getting some quality shopping done in it and definitely taken advantage of the art available, but it feels kind of hollow. I'm not sure how to explain it. I think it feels as though it's a hand out to distract from the bigger picture (that could be my paranoia) or when you bribe your kid to get good grades, or the gift you give them before you tell them you had to flush their pet fish Simon down the toilet because he stopped swimming.
Maybe I'm over thinking it.

At least it's gorgeous.

I guess if they're buttering us up to fight the apocalypse or whatever, we should just enjoy the shopping while we can.

If this is the plan, I may have to decline.

I mean, we could sit around worrying about what's coming, but something is always coming, so you know enjoy life while you can and whatever it is, we'll fight it when we have to.

I'm opting out of the fighting part.

Hey, I will say that it's an apocalypse prep I can mostly get behind. Shopping before doom and gloom beats someone dying to accelerate the plot to the climax? I'm in, even if I'm paranoid about it.

Shop now, kick ass later.

Bribing children seems dangerous and irresponsible.

If you’re overthinking, so am I.

Yeah, it does, but it seems to be common practice from what I've seen. I've had it happen to me a few times when I was growing up.

Oh good, at least we're not alone in it.

Did it work? Did they get you to do what they wanted you to do?

I would almost suggest we start a club.

I was a kid, so there were a few times it helped, but overall it really only postponed the drama and trauma depending on the situation.

Ooh, we can all have matching hats or pins.

It's almost insane the things people do under the guise of doing what they think is right for children.

Hats might be too close to uniforms, but I don't see anything wrong with a nice pin. Subtle but recognizable if you look for it and know what to look for.

Sometimes it boils down to inexperience, but it's not like it's hard to just think that maybe kids are smarter than given credit for. Or maybe it is. I'm not exactly a parent, but I know I've made plenty of mistakes with kids and teenagers not unlike that. But I'm trying to do better on that.

A hat is still better than a matching shirt. But I do like the idea of pins for exactly the same reason. Plus, if it's made of silver it can be used to help with quite a few demons in my experience. Fashionable and functional.

Some people underestimate children and what they can and cannot handle. It's a little insulting. I am also not a parent, unless you count suddenly finding myself surrounding by my brothers and sister. I do not, but I could see it, though they are technically adults. I imagine, ultimately, it's a delicate balance, and I am happy to not be experiencing it.

This is true, though hats easily fall off. Pins for fashion and function work better. Though won't silver tarnish?

My general motto is always be prepared for the worst. However, I am starting to hope for the best so there is that.

I must like that motto, because I've been thinking that for awhile myself... But yeah, it is kind of easy to start hoping for the best here when there's actually nothing overtly terrible going on. And if you're lucky and a ton of people you know shows up, not that I'm jealous because I'm not. I'm actually kind of glad I'm not surrounded by familiar faces. Even the "trouble" we've had so far wasn't even that big of a deal.

So far we've been lucky. So far being the key phrase.

How are you liking the job?

True that. I'm definitely going to enjoy it while I can, even if I have my side of jadedness and paranoia. It's just hard sometimes.

I LOVE IT. No, seriously. I do. It's not what I'm used to, doing it professionally, but I kind of feel like I'm channeling my mom a little bit, so that's a nice warm fuzzy feeling. Plus, I get paid. You get nice things. It's a win win and that's why you're currently one of my top five people here. So, thank you. I'd give you a shiny box of gratitude wrapped in a bow if I could actually box it up.

I actually can! Got a favorite kind? I'm discovering that baking is a great outlet these days with all of the down time. Therapeutic and yummy.

Shouldn't you give the gift after you flush the fish?

See, the idea is that you flushed the fish while the kid was out, so that you only have to deal with the aftermath. Some people think it's easier to deal with that. I think in most cases that's wrong, but it seems to be a mentality a lot have.
