I am Tony Stark. My reality is set on earth, specifically New York City, in 2018. I am what some would call a "superhero" although I have no powers. I have my brain and an armored suit. Money helped, sure, but I built my first suit while captured by terrorists in an underdeveloped country. I was not alone. Dr. Yinsen saved my life by implanting an electromagnet in my chest. Kids? It is not as scary as it sounds. I promise. Long story short, Dr. Yinsen scarified himself for me. He said he wanted to be with his family and told me to do something good in the world.

I learned my company, Stark Industries, was involved in underhanded dealings with terrorists. I had no idea. I knew we sold weapons, but I thought we were protecting innocent people. My ignorance is not an excuse, but it is a lesson. I built the suit to escape terrorists, but Iron Man was born to protect those who couldn't protect themselves. I turned my company over to the intelligent and gorgeous Pepper Potts because I knew she'd never betray me and she'd work to make sure Stark Industries did good instead of evil.

Nick Fury approached me one day. I told him I wasn't a team player; I told him I wasn't interested in his super secret boyband. Funnily enough, he was already evaluating my mental state through Natasha-- through a third party so I understand distrust and suspicion. My father's best friend betrayed me within my own company and then Fury, knowing my father was a co-founder of SHIELD, studied me like some freak show. That's right, my father was a founder of SHIELD. I had no idea. For a smart guy, I sure was naive.

I don't trust the government and I sure as hell don't trust a "jubilant entity," but things aren't so black and white, are they? I agreed to join the Avengers Initiative not because I trusted Nick Fury or because I trusted every single SHIELD member. I joined because it gave me the chance to do something good in the world. The Avengers? We were a mess, but we somehow managed to put that aside and do something important together.

I don't know Daisy or Lincoln well. I don't know everything that happened in their world. I don't know everything that happened in the various realities here. I know different people and different names and different events impact us all differently. The only thing I do know? The road to hell is paved with good intentions. Still, does that mean we don't at least try? Anything can be tainted, but evil only wins when good people look the other way. SHIELD was infiltrated, but that does not mean the organization didn't start with good intent and it sure as hell doesn't mean it can't do good if given a chance. But everyone has to learn from each other. Listen to each other.

That's it. I wanted to be the one to tell my story with SHIELD rather than have it used against me have someone else do it.

NOTE: Teenagers can read your replies. Please filter them if you wish to say something in anger. Thank you.

[filtered to Peter Parker & James Rogers]

I am sorry, kids.

[filtered to science club]

I know I will regret it.

So I have this power, and it's dangerous to others. When it first emerged, this guy from SHIELD who ran this secret 'Weapon X' program cornered me and offered to help me learn how to control it. I was 12 and agreed, 'cause what the hell did I know? I was just a kid.

So they take me to their HQ in Finland and I find out that he doesn't wanna help me. He wants to use me. For years they tortured me and used me to do what they wanted whether it was capturing others with powers, killing, stealing, or whatever. They even put a mini bomb in my brain they could set off at any time if I didn't fall in line. I lived in a tiny cell and was only let out when they wanted me to do something or they were between torture and experiments

So yeah, I want nothing to do with SHIELD ever again.

Do you come from Charles Xavier's world? Or Sam's?

It was SHIELD or HYDRA? Not that the name really matters with what they did, but I am trying to sort it out in my head. SHIELD was government-run in my reality and, well, we all know what happens when politics touch something.

You didn't deserve that. You were a child. Hell, adults don't deserve it.

We won't let it happen here.

Sam's, but Xavier might be from an earlier version of mine. I ran with his crowd for a bit until I split off, after I got out of all that.

SHIELD. It was swept under the books, kept away from the public, hell most of the main part of them probably didn't even know about it. Then when they made me help them catch a group of prominent mutants who were then broken out by a group of prominent mutant terrorists, they suddenly came in and were all "oh we're going to shut this program down, this is wrong"...'cause they knew Xavier would blow the lid on the whole shebang if they didn't.

Yeah, I know.

How can you guarantee that?

You are right. I won’t patronize. I can’t promise someone won’t try. I can promise they’d have to go through me first.

I appreciate that. And it'll take me a little while to trust you'd be able to withstand that kinda thing, but thanks for saying it all the same. No offense or anything.

I get it. That said, the Avengers are often a mess, but we usually stick together where bad guys are concerned so you have more than just me.

Sam mentioned them. They're called the Ultimates where I'm from, but I haven't run into them too often.

From what I hear, it fits.

Ever heard of Fenris? Run by the von Strucker twins?

Uh, no. It's a global investment company supposedly. They're big into corporate crime and all that. Tried recruiting me to be a corporate spy for them by dangling a nice shiny carrot. [...] It's why I said that thing the other day about not working for you, they just left a bad taste in my mouth.

So anyway what I'm trying to say is sorry, didn't mean to offend you then.

Yeah, they were the opposite. They hid it, but when they had me kidnapped to "recruit" me, I knew they were shady. At least you're upfront about all this.

I’m also not in the business of kidnapping so I get a point.

By the way, Steve is beefy.

I guess you do.

Hell yeah he is. Walked up on me in nothing but a pair of boxers, and I found out real fast he's a blusher.

That's fine, I'll just tell him he's a cutie with his face all glistening from the sweat.
