Modern holidays are so confounding.

I fear I find myself a tad loss in regard to this day. Might someone point me in material to read that is not biased towards the feeling of this unique day?

Tis annoying to be so oblivious, which I wish to remedy.

I say take it all with a grain of salt, though, since history can be tweaked and twisted to suit the storyteller's needs. :)

My thanks, and yes, I am rather aware history can be modified to suit the teller.

I shall certainly try. Are you a scholar? Is that why you have access to such information?

Just a high school student who knows how to look things up and research thanks to lots of essays. :)

You're that interested in learning about it?

I like knowing things. The rate at which people seem to be disgusted with the holiday or delighted with it has me intrigued.

Yeah, it's pretty polarizing - usually based on whether or not someone's getting laid regularly.

Well, that is a unique means of gauging reaction to a holiday.
