Sometimes people become withdrawn before they leave, but not always. It could be a kind of depression, maybe the entity has some kind of insight there. It's the only tie into 'jubilant' I've seen. But you can't exactly ward off depression, especially not some multi-dimensional version.

It seems really likely this is some kind of social experiment, so yes. If the entity isn't getting data on someone, why spend the resources to keep them involved?
