Is there a flower that says "sorry I acted like you're a vicious bitch who got this guy's family killed when it turns out you died to save him"
I hate being wrong.
I have no idea how I'm supposed to feel about any of this.
Just... don't ask. I don't even know.

Smart.

I mean, where I'm from basically everyone has. It doesn't mean it hurts any less, but it does make it easy to judge how someone else deals with grief because you don't get this instinctive "wow, I can't imagine how hard that must be" reaction.

Honestly, I wasn't aware that was the right reaction to be having.

I dunno if it's right, but I vaguely remember it from when I was younger. Used to be the common wisdom that parents outliving their kids was one of the worst tragedies there was.

There are many tragedies in the face of war. Parents outliving their children is probably the least of it.

Do you ever wish you weren't this hardened?

Sometimes, yeah. One situation's rational coping mechanism is another situation's extreme dysfunction.

It's quite normal not to know what to do in situations like these.

I would just ride out the storm with a pint of my favorite ale.

Go for something hearty. A Guinness will do.
