Hello Goodland! It's that time again to see what days Tony and I picked for November!
November is that curious month between October and December, between Halloween and all the December holidays. It's that weird transitional phase between Halloween and Christmas store wise, where it's like, "Do I decorate for fall, or do I say forget it, and just throw up all my Christmas decorations by the second week of November and pretend I'm Disney World?" Personally, I don't think there's a right or wrong answer. But I do think having things to look forward to and things to do between Big Holidays People Might Celebrate is fun.
So without further ado, I present to you Fun Days for November by Peter Parker and Tony Stark!
Fun Days for November
Nov 1 Play Monopoly Day
Kind of self explanatory, right? It's the day to play Monopoly! Never played? Now's the time to learn! And even if you've played, now's the time to learn the rules! Did you know so many people don't actually know the rules of Monopoly, they just think they do? For instance, you don't have to go around the board once before you start purchasing properties. I didn't know. Apparently I've been playing it wrong for years! But this is a day to learn the rules (again). Maybe we can get a few games going in the common areas!
Nov 6 National Doughnut Day
This one's really easy to observe! Just pick up a doughnut (or a box of one dozen) and enjoy! Try new flavors or stick to the old tried and true. Either way, it's gonna be delciicious!
Nov 9 Kindness Day
This is a day to spread kindness. You can do some kind of random act of kindness for someone else (or even yourself, if you're someone who's usually hard on him or herself), or you can just try to be more aware of being kind. We're all people, and, sometimes, something small and random and kind can go a long way. Holding the door open for someone for no other reason than you see they've got their hands full or sitting next to someone at lunch who's always alone or giving someone a little extra encouragement who might need it are a few ways to be kind. Yeah, I probably sound like some PSA, but I do think kindness is important. Even if you're just being a little kinder to yourself.
Nov 11 Veterans Day
It's a day to observe those who served in the military. Goodland is really diverse, and I think (though this may be just me) that we should honor those who served in various types of armed forces. Because someone's armed forces may be different than mine, but it's still where someone served. Those people still served, and they should be recognized and honored appropriately. To everyone who served in any capacity in any situation, whether from my world or not, thank you for your service.
Nov 13 National Pickle Day
Eat pickles! You can eat them alone or put them on your food (sandwiches, burgers). Whatever you do, however you celebrate, it's Pickle Day!
Nov 15 National Adoption Day
This is a day that's meant to help raise awareness for kids waiting for a permanent and loving home. I can't speak about other worlds, but there are thousands of kids in my world who could use a good family and good home. This day is to raise awareness for that and to help those kids find families who'll love them and support them. It's a good day. I have a lot of Feelings (with a capital F) about this day. When my parents passed away, my aunt and uncle did something called a kinship adoption. I was too little to remember the process, and I don't want to really talk aboutbut I still think it's cool they went through all of that for me.
Nov 17 Carbonated Beverage With Caffeine Day
Basically raise a glass of soda and enjoy the bubbles day!
Nov 19 Absurdity Day
This is a day for things that are absolutely absurd from history to life. You can reminisce about the crazy things from your world in your world's history or from your personal history. Or even just weird and random facts! Take a moment and look around at all the strange things. Especially since we're all here in this alternate dimension, which is just a little bit absurd! You can also do something you may think is absurd, but please be safe!
Nov 23 Pepperony Day!
Today is the day that Tony Stark and Pepper Potts get married! And it's the first wedding of Goodland! YAY!!! ヾ(〃^ワ^)ノ
Nov 27 Stay Home Because You're Well Day
You know, everyone stays at home when they're sick, but why not take a day off and enjoy being healthy? You're not sick, so you're not stuck in bed. You're feeling good. Maybe you want to catch up on a book or do a little cleaning or have a Me Day. This is the day for that! Take the day and spend it doing something you want to do.
Nov 28 Thanksgiving Day
I don't know how accurate this is, but for more than 200 years in the American colonies and states, days of thanksgiving were celebrated. In the middle of the American Civial War, Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a more national Thanksgiving Day for every November. This is a divisive holiday, at least in my world, but I also think the idea of having a day to be thankful isn't bad in and of itself. So maybe in Goodland we can do something similar. At home, May and I take time to be thankful for the things we do have, for making it through another year, and to help out where we can for those who might not have what we have. (We aren't rich, but May's always made sure I didn't want for the basics. Always had a home, food, clothes, love.) You don't have to observe this, but maybe this Thanksgiving and its traditions in Goodland can be made up of things from all the residents. I do like the tradition of sharing a meal and being with loved ones, to take time to appreciate what we have. Why not do that here? Even just a small, private list of things to be thankful for. The food is extra. It's nice, but, for me, it's secondary. For me, it's about loved ones and taking the time to stop and appreciate all the good in life.
Nov 30 Candy Day
Eat candy. Pass out in a sugar coma. That's it! That's the day! ;)
EDITED TO ADD:
November 22 -- Darcy Lewis Day! AKA Darcy's Birthday!
November 5 -- Bonefire Night! I don't know much about Bonfire Night except that it has to do with Guy Fawkes and his failure and has bonfires and fireworks. I'm sorry! I'll refer everyone to Edmund or anyone else who celebrates this night for more information. I'm sure he and those who celebrate it can elaborate. :D
