I've been quieter than usual on here recently, been busy and not feeling and having a rough time. For new people - I'm Sam Wilson, I run the clinic on the ground floor, but I'm usually more of a biologist with a specialty in cybernetics and nanotechnology, which is a fancy way of saying I'm interested in finding ways to use technology to improve the body. I was one of the first people here back on June 15.

Housekeeping note: We lost our psych specialist in that purge, or whatever it was. Anyone who got prescriptions from him, I'm happy to keep them going, but beyond that... keep your fingers crossed for another one to turn up? Sorry. No good solutions, I know.

Right now people are hurting, and other people are feeling helpless or awkward or not sure what they're supposed to be doing. If you're someone who feels better just curling up alone and hiding until you feel a little better don't be ashamed to do that. If you'd rather have a distraction and be around people I'm going to put up a projector on the roof on Saturday for a movie marathon and food while the weather's still good. I'm still catching up on the last 10-15 years of movies so I'm sure it will be an exciting journey through whatever looks interesting on imdb.com.

I'm making her a new arm, actually.

Most of the practical things I've done have been to do with motor neurons and nerve centres. Started with treating phantom limb syndrome in amputees and then moved on to working on re-activating neural pathways and eventually creating new ones by using nanites to replicate the connection. Hence the wings.

I bet that is interesting work, because isn't most of her hardware alien tech?

You can re-activate pathways? Like... you could jump start a fucked up spine?

Yeah, makes it actually easier to just start over. Trying to repair something I'm not familiar with is just going to end up basically being held together by duct tape and chewing gum with half a dozen pieces of different things tacked together. Very Russian.

Uh, the long answer is really really long, but the short answer is maybe. It's not just the nerves itself that are important, they have to have a physical connection to send the signal along. So it depends on the exact injury, whether the damage is more to do with the nerves or the muscles or something else entirely and whether it can be worked around.

I bet. I looked at her spaceship once, and I've flown fighter jets of all sort, and studied all about them. It was incredibly foreign, but amazing at the same time.

About seven years ago now, I was shot out of the sky by our version of Vision. My suit exploded and malfunctioned (it's a lot like Tony's, in case you didn't know. he made both of them). I fell out of the sky pretty hard. Tony made these braces for me, that connected to my spine, and allowed me to walk and connect to my suit, but I don't have them here. And if I could find away to walk without them... that would be miraculous.

I've worked with alien tech before, at least. Not just Vision, I had another good friend who was Kree - Mahr-Vehl. Worked pretty closely with him after he defected as well, and the Kree are... incredibly advanced.

I wasn't gonna ask. So bone shards, rupturing Connected above the site of injury?

I can have a look. I just can't promise anything. Even if it's possible to recover any kind of muscular control there could be pretty serious side effects. I've felt a lot of them when I was calibrating the wings. They're no joke.

I haven't heard of the kree. I'm just hoping that they're friendly, because I don't know how much more "oh look an alien... and its trying to kill us" I can take.

Yeah.

Hey. All I'm asking is to see if it's possible. If it's not, no hard feelings... but if it is.. it'll be worth the side effects.

Friendlier than the Chitauri?

I'll look. Just don't want you to get your hopes up.

I've met starving pitbulls friendlier than the Chitauri.

No worries, I'm a practical man.
