We're in an alternate dimension where, as far as anyone can currently tell, the only landmass is an island that often resembles what a lot of people know is Manhattan, though it's current form is Brooklyn and Queens. It was Paris briefly. It stands to reason that it could look like somewhere in California eventually. I'm personally hoping for Carmel-by-the-Sea but am open to other places in California.
