TONY STARK
HAPPY HOGAN
May's arrival in Goodland brought up some things Tony was curious about. First, he was curious about Happy's friendship with the woman. Second, he wanted to know about the events Happy and Peter hinted about post Tony's death. He had the feeling Peter swept it under the rug to spare his feelings, but Tony felt he should know. He didn't want secrets with either his best friend or his kid. Furthermore, he thought it was a conversation better had over drinks so he invited Happy out for the night. They could grab some dinner and have some drinks, just the two of them.

"Quentin Beck was the ringleader." That name alone should have cued Tony in to what sort of madness was at work. "Took his holographic framework to a whole new level. I think you'd have been impressed with what they came up with if you didn't want to kill them first."

Happy still wasn't entirely clear on Fury's uselessness during the whole affair. Or why none of the other Avengers had been free to give Peter a hand. For all he knew, it was some sort of test. Some hoops the one-eyed spy was making Peter jump through before he would bring him onto his crew. He could always ask Fury about it, but the guy still scared him a little.

"Peter pulled the plug on the whole thing. In a suit he made in the back of the jet." Happy smiled a little at the memory. In that moment, he had felt like Tony was there, and now thanks to some mysterious entity, he really was. "You'd be proud of him. I know that you are, but..." There was something different about a Peter with Tony and one without.

Happy's small smile calmed Tony down enough to focus on the last of the man's words. "I can see you are proud of him," Tony replied. His jaw slackened, if only because Happy and Peter were both in Goodland and safe. He kept reminding himself that everyone was okay even with fucking Beck and his idiot tribe. "We've come a long way from dodging phone calls, haven't we?" He laughed a little, although his heart was still beating too fast. He had a lot to process.

"He's a good kid," Happy shrugged, as if it was something he was admitting in spite of himself. "Now he's dodging Fury's calls." He wasn't sure if either of them saw it, how similar Tony and Peter were. Their brilliant mind. The urge to protect. The self-doubt. And their big hearts. "I'm glad he gets this time here with you." I hope he remembers it went unspoken.
