He had regretted inviting Buffy over to his flat almost immediately after it had been done. He had never met her in person before (or anyone else, really) save for a few passing moments at the church, and he was shamefully, disgustingly intoxicated, a wonderful first impression to make. He had stumbled his way into the living room, collapsing down onto his couch, and he stared at the blank television with distaste as he balanced a half-empty bottle on his knee, its neck closed in his tight grip. His spinning vision took a sweep across his place, pleased to see that it was at least decently tidy save for a few empty bottles from previous nights on his table, the after effects of his realization that he was, indeed, alone again.
Perhaps it was better this way. Maybe Remus and Lily were sent back somewhere where everyone was still alive, and they could make everything okay. He scoffed aloud at the thought, the bottle finding its way to dry lips taking its place back on his knee. No, he didn't believe that, it would have been much too perfect. He had no idea what happened to his friends, and, now knowing this place, he probably never would. In the back of his mind, he knew he would never see them again, and the idea that he had lost Remus once and Lily twice put a bad taste in his mouth that he had been trying to wash away since two in the afternoon. He heard a knock on his door, and after dragging himself to his feet, he realized that walking to try and open it wasn't an option. He fell back into the couch with a small cry of surprise, a string of profanities mumbled under his breath before he grabbed his wand from the table and waved it haphazardly at the door. "Alohomora." He waited until he heard the click of the lock.
"It's opened."
