Severus watched the man sleeping at his side, the glimpse of scarred golden-brown shoulder above the blankets.  He ran his hands lightly over the lean sinews and muscles of his back, relishing the warmth emanating from him.

He felt as though he'd never been so warm in bed before.  Even his cold feet felt warm. 

He watched his breath slightly move the greying hair; tenderly he stroked it away from the werewolf's face.  Sleeping he looked so relaxed, almost childlike, his mouth rosy pink and slightly open.

He let his eyes and hands drink in the sight, the feel of him.  He might never have this opportunity again.

Lots of answers to that question! But the way I'd answer it is that he is a silly twit twisted by self-loathing - & he doesn't realize that he can have more than a quick bonk with Remus.
