In Sixth Year, Severus Snape noticed the ghosts of Hogwarts Castle with more ease. It was then he noticed Looney Loopy Lupin chatting with the Grey Lady.

He watched them, bent towards each other. He almost envied Lupin—he had the chance to share secrets that would never be told, to confide in someone who would never leave.

When the solicitor’s letter arrived, Severus flushed and stole away with the letter, running away from everyone’s eyes. It was only when he found himself at the base of Ravenclaw Tower, gasping out his sorrows, that he saw the Grey Lady was listening to him.

In 1981, Severus Snape visited Godric’s Hollow and planted Lilies of the Valley in the yard of her ruined house. He then reported to Hogwarts Castle and his new, unwanted life as a professor of Potions.

He watched from afar one day as a bedraggled man slipped in past the doors and headed toward Ravenclaw Tower. He followed, his wand out, the words of a binding hex trembling on his lips.

When the Grey Lady floated by, he stopped. A voice—Remus Lupin’s—broke the stillness and Severus would have sworn he smelled Lily of the Valley in the hallway.

When the werewolf returned to take over Defense Against the Dark Arts, Severus poured out his ire and his disdain into the Grey Lady’s silent presence. She floated through him several times, her attempt at soothing a body in distress.

He also began telling her of strange feelings Lupin brought in him. Feelings of something warm and passionate. “I wish I could Obliviate myself, but then I’d be no better than Lockhart,” Severus said.

“You’d never be a great waste of space like that bounder, Severus.” Lupin stepped out, hands spread to show he was unarmed. “Why don’t we talk a bit?”

Headmaster Snape sighed. “Milady, if you could rouse the other ghosts, particularly the Bloody Baron, I’d be most grateful.” His body ached from expending so much magic trying to keep the Carrows from hurting anymore children.

Suddenly, arms wrapped around him, and a solid body warmed his back. “Let me help for a bit, Severus.”

“I should have known you knew a secret entrance to the castle.” Severus leaned his head back on his lover’s shoulder.

Remus pressed a soft kiss to Severus’ temple. “I’ll ease your burden for a while.” He looked at the Grey Lady and smiled, “If you’ll excuse us?”

The Grey Lady smiled and curtsied to Remus and Severus as they passed her. A tinkling laugh fell from her lips and they turned back.

“I can hear you!” Remus exclaimed.

“Yes, good sirs. Only a ghostly presence may hear my voice.”

“So, we’re well and truly dead, then?” Severus asked.

“Oh, aye, good Headmaster. It has been a privilege to be at your side all these years.” She turned to Remus and winked. “I always knew my grandson ages removed would choose you in time, you know.”

“Now, go dally in your heaven, sparing a thought and a smile for me.”

Wow!! Loved this...ok I'm speechless..so you get it, right?!
Thank you! *beaming happily*
Awww, soundboard!Grey Lady FTW! I like how mirrored (for lack of a better term) Severus and Remus are in the first two parts. And Severus being a Ravenclaw descendant (and the Grey Lady gunning for RLSS! LOL!) puts a nice spin on the earlier R-GL-S interactions.
Thank you so much for such a lovely and long comment. If you can't tell, I'm smiling quite widely at such a lovely reaction.
Aw, lovely drabbles!
