Inviting

“Severus! I didn’t know you were going to the garden centre. Is that something for the back garden?”

“Front. I have two of them. They are to be planted on either side of the gate.”

“Well, they’ll certainly make a lovely display when the berries are out. You know, I’m so pleased you’re getting into making this place look more inviting – “

“Lupin. These are rowan trees. You are familiar with their reputation? Making the place look inviting is the last thing I had in mind.”

“Oh dear. Has Hermione been threatening to visit again?”

“Bringing her daughters, Merlin forfend.”

AN: Rowan trees are, of course, reputed to keep away witches.
(I may have stretched a point on the “urban” part of the prompt!)

“Severus! You’ve been to the garden centre again.”

“Your powers of observation never cease to amaze me Lupin. Tell me, what was it about me walking in carrying a large tropical plant that tipped you off?”

“You know, I heard once about someone buying one of those, and it had a large poisonous spider living in it, which escaped and laid eggs in their flat - in their duvet, as I recall - that hatched out into a swarm of baby spiders - “

“Don’t be ridiculous, Lupin. It was a wizarding garden centre. For pregnant poisonous spiders, they charge extra.”

“Severus! You’ve been to the shops again.”

“Lupin. I thought we had discussed this irritating habit of yours of stating the obvious.”

“Sorry. So, er, what’s in that enormous box you’re carrying, then?”

“A Muggle device. It’s called a microwave oven.”

“Are they always that, well, big?”

“I will concede that I bought the largest I could find. I’ve heard that elderly Muggles find them invaluable for drying off their pet dogs after they’ve been for a walk in the rain.”

“Oh, really?”

“Yes. I thought we could try it out on Padfoot the next time he comes to visit.”
